Description

I’ve been editing GTA IV’s WeaponInfo.xml for a while now, constantly striving to make each of the attributes on each and every weapon as realistic as possible without breaking the game [no one wants to be taken down by a single bullet in a GTA game, plain and simple], while at the same time maintaining the strengths and weaknesses each weapon provides. Almost every aspect of the weapons in GTA IV have been edited [keep in mind, most of us here use custom weapons, so I did my best to make each attribute ‘generic,’ meaning, they’ll make sense with most weapon skins]. I know a lot of people won’t like this, it was designed to increase the realism of the game, making cover almost mandatory in intense firefights. And as most people don’t want GTA IV to be realistic [I can’t say that I blame them, we all like our video games to be a different way], they may not like this mod. I simply made it for myself and decided to share it as I put a lot of effort into it. I hope some of you like it! Enjoy! Changes; Magazine/Clip Capacity [I spent as much time as possible researching the most common weapon magazines used in each weapon in today’s world] Maximum Ammo Capacity [for added realism, and to promote the use of more diverse weapons, each weapon is allotted only six magazines/clips total] Weapon Range & Damage Each weapon has been modified to make them feel more realistic and powerful while at the same time making each weapon unique and fun to wield (I extensively strived to ensure they did not break the game, however). Weapons now deal more damage and have slightly altered range (for instance, the AK47 now shoots slightly slower than its competitor, however it also hits slightly harder and shoots slightly further than the M4]. Some weapons even penetrate armor now (though at the time only the Sniper Rifles do that; I tested this extensively with other weapons and it just seemed a bit too overpowered; I know this isn’t entirely realistic, just about any weapon can use AP rounds, but it seemed unfair for the M4 or AK47 to use them, they simply destroyed armored opponents)]. Weapon Impact I drastically altered the impact of bullets on the game’s physics. A shotgun will still knock a person down, but in a more realistic fashion than before [I don’t care what the Myth Busters say, a shotgun is going to knock someone on their rear if you hit them from 10 yards away (please, don’t try this is at home!)]; The 9mm will now barely even make a target stagger [however they will respond, but not very much, this was the US Special Forces biggest issue with the 9x19mm Parabellum round, it has very little stopping power (this flaw led the construction of the USSOCOM Mk. 23 .45 Caliber handgun)]; Anyways, you get the point… Reload Speed I actually did not alter this one much, I was afraid of its effect on the reload animations and as I am not an animator, I do not know how to modify them myself. No matter, most of the reload speeds aren’t that atrocious anyways [the only one I really have a problem with is the assault rifle reload animations…] That's about it, I hope you enjoy!
