San Andreas Tidbits

GTA: San Andreas - General News | @ 04:51 AM CST | By Neil
The time has finally come for San Andreas PC/XB to become available in both Europe and Australasia. If you're still in two minds about what version to purchase, check out IGN Insider's Head-to-Head which they just put online. The article compares all three versions of the game side by side and essentially concludes that the PC version is the best looking. Unfortunately though, you'll need a premium subscription to read it.

Take Two have updated their customer support pages to answer an often asked question.
Does San Andreas run on machines using the GeForce4 MX440 video card?

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was played on a GeForce4 MX440 during compatibility testing where the game was found to play without problems on the 440 hardware. Compatibility testing recommended settings with a resolution of 800x600x16 with draw distance set to around 1/4 and "details" set to medium for best results with this graphics card.

However, if you're still using a Geforce 4 MX series card, I'd highly recommend you upgrade to reap the full benefits of buying the PC version of San Andreas!

Look for a brand new modification area on this site in the coming days!

Does that mean it's working as well with the GeForce MX420 card?

it was mentioned that it wouldn't work as well on a GeForce MX420 compared to better graphics card.

and quote Neil "I'd highly recommend you upgrade to reap the full benefits of pc sa"

Neil, don't you have a 9800XT? What are your other specs and what settings can you run the game at with no problems?

GeForce4 MX440, you mean 64 MB, that's awful in these days.

@ HBK & Siegfreud: GeForce4 MX440 and GeForce4 MX420 are almost same, but GeForce4 MX440 has slightly better advantage on GeForce4 MX420.

I am running San Andreas on:

Athlon 2600+
512mb DDR 2700 RAM
ATi Radeon 9800XT 256mb

I don't get any slowdown in the game when I play at 1024x768x32 with everything maxed except VisualFX quality. VisualFX quality is a weird setting which I don't really see the benefits of having on high - it just cuts the framerate down drastically.

Liberty City Stories for PSP is revealed today!
You will play as Tony Cipriani in the year 1998 in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP. Cipriani is fresh back in the city after laying low for a while, having offered a fellow mobster a favor for Don Salvatore Leone. The grateful Salvatore puts you straight back to work.

best game i have ever played!. it is really big and inmersive. i will play it for more than 2 year from now. till the gta comes to PC. by the way i have a fx5200 and it runs incredible at 800 600 with low details and V sync turned off. unlike vice city now you can turn off the v sync and you dont see the enviroment appears after some seconds now you see everything loads so fast that you can hardly notice it
