Grand Theftendo

Grand Theft Auto III - Community News | @ 05:21 PM MDT | By rappo

So, you're stuck in the 80's and the only console you have is an NES, right? Well, if you answered "yes" to that question, the folks working on Grand Theftendo are here to help you out. This project was kept quiet until yesterday, mainly to go along with the releases of San Andreas and GTA Advance. Grand Theftendo is basically a remake of Grand Theft Auto III, for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Although it is purely a fan project, the game doesn't look that bad.
Grand Theftendo is a remake of Grand Theft Auto III for the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It is Grand Theft Auto III running on an 8 bit, 256x240 resolution, 2 bit colour x 2 bit palette, 1.79 Mhz system, written entirely in 6502 Assembly Language! It includes the entire Portland city!

So, if you're waiting for the PS2 price to drop down to $50, wipe the dust off of your NES and follow the makers of Grand Theftendo throughout the building process! For more information and several other screenshots of Grand Theftendo, visit the newly released official website.

Note: This is not an official GTA game from Rockstar Games. It is made by a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series.

If some of you are still confused about this project, here is a quote from the website that will help clarify some things:
Just thought I would clarify that this game is not going to be for sale! It will be available for download for free when it is done. I am not violating copyright, nor making profit from Rockstar's game. All of the code, graphics, etc. are done from scratch by me. The dialogue will be original as well when it's released, so it will not infringe on GTA. I did not reverse engineer anything to create it, trace any graphics, convert any audio, it's all original. Grand Theftendo is simply a spare time, fan project for fun, and to pay tribute to Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto.

That's because, the weaker the console, the easier it is to change and write the codes, still, i wouldn't mind giving a 5-10 minutes run.

Pretty sad really, that a couple of fans can make a game of equal quality on a system two generations before a very similar game. (GTA on PS1)

I can't wait for them to make the graphics of GTASA to run on SNES. 3 more years maybe?

Well, I guess it is a 3 gen gap when you count that it is GTA3, however I meant the graphics of GTA, so theres only two gens in there.
NES to SNES, then SNES to PS1. It doesn't matter though.
