Rockstar Games awarded damages from UK newspaper

GTAGaming.com - Rockstar/Take2 News | @ 01:45 PM MDT | By Neil
Rockstar Games' parent company Take 2 Interactive was today awarded undisclosed damages from UK tabloid The Daily Star. The payout comes after the newspaper printed a story in July falsely claiming that Rockstar was producing a title based on the events surrounding several murders committed by Raoul Moat in Northumbria.

The source of the claim remains unknown, although the image used by the newspaper appears to be an amateur mockup, not unlike those produced by GTA fans prior to game releases. The article described Rockstar Games staff as "questionable idiots" and included comment from mourning relatives of those killed by Moat.

After realising its error, the newspaper printed an apology but the case continued to court. The lawyer representing Take Two said that "The defendant now accepts that Rockstar Games never had any intention to create such a video game at any time. The story was entirely false."
