Crazy people drive real car from GTA viewpoint

GTAGaming.com - General News | @ 08:36 AM MDT | By Neil
If you've ever been driving and wondered what it would be like to be able to view your car from the 3rd person viewpoint featured in games like Grand Theft Auto III and IV, you'll love this video. The guys at Rooster Teeth set up a vehicle with a monitor in front of the steering wheel and connected it to a camera on a long pole protruding from the truck's rear. The result (after some crafty blacking out of the windows) is something similar to GTA for real:

What a cool idea. It would have been even more authentic if they somehow could have connected a PS3/XBOX controller, instead of the steering wheel. Maybe it would be easier to steer!

That is awesome! This is something I've actually always thought about, the kind of rig needed to actually set this up, that is. Would love to try this out for myself ;)

@Ketil, controller may make it easier, but remember it would be controlling a real vehicle as a opposed to a programmed video game one, so the mechanics and handling would differ.

Hmm, I think those guys were just really bad. I bet if they had more people do it, some people would be great. Especially people that play games like Gran Turismo with steering wheels. Those guys in the video didn't seem to have a clue what was going on in the first place.

In their defense though, the camera was a little close to the truck, so the frontal view was blocked out a bit. Wasn't so much the default vehicle camera view, but the close up one.

When i was scrolling through the GTA news i saw the preview screengrab of this vid and throught i was looking at a screen grab of some next gen racing game!!!

Otherwise that was awesome, if they really wanted to get gamey they would sort the vehicle out with some controls so they could use an xbox 360 controller remotely, so they couldn't feel the movement of the car like they can IRL. Therefore creating more awesome.

@slim, I have that same problem even in game, I always have to use the mouse to move the camera up a bit when I drive around =/

I'm starting to hate it when games automaticly set the camera back to the default position, Just Cause 2 does it too.
