Seven Days of GTA IV: Tools of the Trade

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:40 AM MDT | By Ash_735
Day five of The Seven Days of GTA IV we look at what makes the PC versions of Grand Theft Auto games stand out, that’s right we’re talking about mods. Just like previous games, Grand Theft Auto IV can be modded to allow people to customise the game even more, today’s post will be looking at the latest tools needed to make sure you can modify the game or even just browse the files and see how things work.

To take a look around the GTA IV archives and extract Models and Textures then you have a choice of two tools, we have OpenIV 0.9 (build 202) and SparkIV 0.6.2, both pretty much do the same job and both are regularly updated every time Grand Theft Auto IV receives a new patch so in the end it’s just down to personal preference to which one you want to use.

There is a simple program out there for Grand Theft Auto IV that allows you to run custom scripts within the game; GTA IV ASI Loader by Alexander Blade is all you need to try out your custom script mods and to load any ASI mods within the game.

Of course if you are doing a bunch of texture mods or possibly future model mods for a vehicle then you’ll need a quick way to see if it works in the game, that’s where Alexander Blades GTA IV Car Spawner v1.4 comes in, this simple program allows you spawn a car right in front of Niko without any hassle.

Our final tool we’d like to bring to peoples attention is XLiveLess 0.95 by listener, this modification is for those of you out there who do not like to use the Games for Windows Live application to play GTA IV and removes any mod checks and file checks, opening the game for you to allow you to do as you wish and quickly load the game without having to launch Social Club and sign in to Games for windows Live. Also note that if you use this, Multiplayer will be blocked out of your game to prevent any unfair cheating within multiplayer games.

All of the above tools are up to date and work with the latest version of Grand Theft Auto IV (v1.0.3.0) as of this date.
