IGN interviews Rockstar Leeds about Chinatown Wars

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 07:09 PM MDT | By Neil
An interview between Rockstar Leeds President Gordon Hall and IGN's Craig Harris has just been posted online, revealing some of the challenges and triumphs of the Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars' development.
"Even before we wrote one line of code we had laid in stone that the game MUST run at 30 frames per second. What we did do many, many times is go over the code, hand optimising every line we could. The amount of raw machine code in this game is just unheard of nowadays. We were busy throwing away page after page of traditional code in favour of the machine's raw assembly language."
-- Gordon Hall, President, Rockstar Leeds
There are also some pretty amazing looking renders of what it's easy to forget is a Nintendo DS game.

The renders are cool, but you don't see it at that perspective or at that quality :P But it's nice to see that they put a lot of effort into it, and that it'll probably be the best quality possible on the DS

Once again, optimising each little thing, did all the brains really go to Rockstar Leeds? If you say Optimisation to Rockstar Toronto they'll just look at you funny and spout out "It's for future computers" crap.
