Rockstar is on the ball

GTAGaming.com - Rockstar/Take2 News | @ 03:51 PM CST | By Zidane
We've just received word from the Webmaster at Rockstar Games that for everyone experiencing problems with the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV, there is hope.
Hey guys,

We are aware that a small number of fans are having problems running GTA IV on their PCs and we would like to assure them we are working to help solve these as quickly as possible.

We would ask anyone that is encountering difficulties to contact their local technical support helpline for advice and recommendations. These telephone numbers can be found in the games manual.

There is also a regularly updated technical support page available on the Rockstar Games website http://www.rockstargames.com/support/ where there are many useful faqs and information on how to resolve some common problems being encountered.

Thanks,

Webmaster@R*

Damn I thought that I was going to be the first to quote that first line of what that guy said in that message.

"We are aware that a small number of fans are having problems running GTA IV"

Lmfao, what ever! I don't even have the PC version of the game and I can already see that the majority are having problems. I just can't understand how Rockstar makes it seem otherwise. "sigh"

I'm happy that they're recognizing the performance issue at all. I half expected them to keep pushing that "this is built for unreleased hardware" line and ignore the problem completely.

It's not that I think badly about Rockstar, it's just, umm, I guess.. enthusiast marketing? Like with Farcry or Oblivion or Crysis, when nobody could run the games maxed out at launch, everyone was like "oh wow, hardcore" and people would get them just to benchmark their rigs on. I just couldn't see an excuse for GTAIV when computers many times more powerful than a console can't run the same game when the image quality gap between the originals and port isn't nearly as large as the performance seems to demand.

But I digress; if they say they're working on it, that's good enough for me. :) But first, if they could get that Social Club working and I can get online~

Of course, Webmaster forgot to mention that the logical thing would have been to fix the issues before shipping the game.

"Ring the tech support line" Not sure how it works for other countries but here in New Zealand that would cost me NZ$1.99 per minute, even worse for our Australian neighbours who would be up for AU$2.45 /m.

Why the F* should I have to pay to get support for their flawed product.

The only thing I can say is...

at least it isn't completely breaking your computer. When GTAIV originally released on consoles, it literally BROKE my system. By that I mean to say, most people WILL say that it wasn't the game it was just my system's time.

That's crap. It BROKE my PS3 and I hate to wait over a month to play any games at all.

It does suck that you have such an amazing game and can't play it, but you CAN play other games. Be patient. I HATED hearing that, as well, but it is true. Rockstar will release a patch/whatever just like they did for the console. It is only a matter of time.

For those that want to take it back and ask for a refund, I don't think that is necessary. If your computer meets the minimum/recommended hardware needs (graphics card, as well) then I'd say you will definitely be able to play this great game. You just gotta wait a LIL bit more.

I really don't see Rockstar as a money-grubbing, POS company like a lot of others are. They know they work by word'o-'mouth and publicity, both of which are being tainted by this problem. They will fix it and they will do it as quickly as possible. I pwomise.

Neil: Some people are actually getting refunds on this game. Either GTA IV is the exception to their rule, or that rule is outdated and doesn't reflect their current policies.

A Small Number Of Fans...

Wtf, I ROFL at that. I don't even own the game because I only have a X1650 Pro and won't be able to run it but I can tell that more than a "SMALL" number are having trouble with it.

I can run the game fine, its just I wish it would run a bit faster (and it darn well should) on the settings I have it on... Don't get me wrong, its perfectly playable, but meh..could be faster. I'm really sorry for those who cannot play it at all - don't worry R* will fix this...

following a poll of one of the biggest german pc magazines, Gamestar, just 5% are able to play the game perfectly, 8% slowly, 11% bad and it crashes from time to time, 2% good, but it crashes from time to time and 74% who are not able to play the game at all.

..."small number"... The problems with ATI cards appeared already before, lots of PC magazines said that ATI is not running with GTA4, but Rockstar stated that this issue is already fixed and will be working. As it is not working with any new ATI card, I doubt, they did not even tested or fixed it at all!!! Otherwise this cannot happen.

I am already quite used to beeing the beta tester as customer, but thats too much. Its a pitty, but the last good coding factories are getting worse as well. This cannot be a minor mistake, as saiid, they knew about it. If they don't fix the problem within days, I will never deal with this coders anymore. Anyway, the registration procedure is a blanc horror and nobody says anywhere, that you need to make an xbox account which can be linked to your windows live account, which is linked to the social club. Lots of people needed hours to figure that out. Who the heck as a PC Gamer, who has a windows live account can imagine that he needs to create an xbox account. Beside the increased graphic quality, which made me happy, everything else is terrible organized. This is probably the biggest damage to rockstar which could happen.

My suggestion: Back to the old times, include testers earlier. Always test on all systems (AMD-NVIDIA / Intel-Nviidia / AMD-ATI and so on) and last, but not least, increase the number of testers again, especially for such complex game - lots of them where fired or directed to other software after the xbox release.

BTW: i am one of the 74% with: Core2Duo 8500@3,6 ghz, ATI 4870, 6GB RAM and Vista 64bit and I waited hours to get the game already at half past twelve in the morning and than it doesn't run - depressing!!

Hey, guys maybe instead of complainign to Rockstar to fix all your problems for you, you could do a little "investigtion" on your own.

I had prblems with my GTA IV game when I first instaled it yesterday. I got at least 5 errors, after I fixed one and tried to start up my game, another one came, it seemed endless. But after about 2 to 3 hours of invstigation on Rockstar's support page, and systemrequirementslab.com I was able to successfuly start Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC. Then I noticed I was missing like half the textures, so I had to fix that too.

Guess, what. I did it all without complaining, too. Now I run GTA IV on high settings, and the reward was well worth the trouble. Maybe if you all put as much work into solving the problems yourself, as you put into complaining, you would be able to enjoy GTA IV on the pc. (btw its better than on Xbox or PS3, I especially love the 32 person multiplayer, even if I haven't been able to find a game with 32 players on it lol)

You shouldn't have to invest 2 or 3 hours into a video game just to get it working if your computer meets recommended or minimum settings. That's just ridiculous.

I don't even have it for PC and that post, Captain, makes me incredibly angry. It's just a ridiculous statement.

And what about the people who have next to NO know-how on those things and just want to play a video game on the PC? Exactly.

Ridiculous statement.
