GTA IV dated in Japan

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 07:28 AM MDT | By ash_735 + rappo
Japanese website Dengeki Online has put up an article announcing the release date for Grand Theft Auto IV in Japan as October 30, 2008.

Like Japanese GTA games in the past, this version of GTA IV will be published by Capcom. The game received a CERO rating of Z, equivalent to ESRB's AO and PEGI's 18+ rating.

Update: Dengeki's article has now been followed up with an official Take 2 Games press release, confirming the previously reported information.

GTA is a series made by the British and Americans, so we get priority over the release date. This is actually early for Japan, San Andreas and Liberty City Stories took over a year to be released in Japan.

I'm pretty sure we'll be playing Grand Theft Auto: Earth in 2500. Although actually we'll all be dead by then.

Think of all the text, dialogue etc. tthat they need to translate into Japanese. That's why it takes a while.

Anyway don't you mean the ESRB equivalent of M?

An AO rating is retail death and the console makers won't let you put Ao games on their systems.

Father Time: Actually, an M rating is 17+ while an AO rating is 18+, which is what a CERO Z rating is equivalent to. It may not be equivalent in terms of sales, but as for age limits, it's the same.

BronxKnight28: Japan isn't a part of North America or Europe :P

Uuuhh well, Rockstar Games probably does not want to higher more manpower to localize their games in Japan. Capcom published San Andreas in Japan, too, so it's nothing new. Although Rockstar DOES have Rockstar Japan... maybe they're working on something else. Or Capcom just pays well :P

All of the GTA games in Japanese are published by Capcom.

It doesn't sell very well there anyway so it's probably not worth the effort for Rockstar.

Plus Japanese people are more likely to buy it if it's published by a Japanese company.
They are racist like that :p

I'm guessing there are more violent games in Japan, that and they might not know much about current issues about the US. When I was in Asia, I let my relatives play San Andreas, but they didn't like it.
masteratt: I know a Japanese guy who owns an American muscle. :)
