APRGTA New Zealand being investigated by police

Stacy O'CallhaghanGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been modified in virtually every way you could think possible, from a full blown multiplayer mode to a simple iPhone addition. Unfortunately, police in New Zealand are unhappy that a total conversion mod called Grand Theft Auto: New Zeland is using the police's imagery.

The 17-year-old creator, Stacy O'Callhaghan, from Karori, says that he started work to replace as much of the game as possible with New Zealand inspired equivalents "because I got sick of all this American rubbish". However, Jon Neilson who works at the national headquarters of police in the country, says that their legal team is currently investigating. Apparently, unauthorized use of a police uniform is a criminal offence.

 Well, at least it's not Grand Theft Auto: Candyland.

On a more serious note, the police need to remove the sticks from their nethers and stop harassing a kid for being creative.

 This is a bit stupid...

I mean... the whole point of the game is Rockstar's take on AMERICAN culture. It makes no sense to be in New Zealand...

no sense at all...

I also agree with Draven tho... Get the real crims!

It is a criminal offense, when used in real life. Otherwise anyone taking a picture of a NZ police officer is guilty of the same crime as this young man, having in their possession an unauthorized digital copy of the uniform, and if that's the case then how many photographers are they going to go after for that?

As stated above, these pigs have nothing better to do? Aren't there real crimes being committed by dangerous criminals in NZ while they waste public resources to harass this young man?

If the GTA:NZ mod didn't made the NZ cops look like complete fools, they certainly accomplished that now by themselves.

 He should have done the same thing as Rockstar and given it a slightly different name. GTA: Old ZealPlace.

 I thought Stacy was just a girls name. The cop cars do look like what I've seen on the New Zeland show, Motorway Patrol but you have to change a lot more than uniforms and a few cars for it to be a total conversion.

 Ha ha ha, I saw the cover for this a while ago and thought it was a joke. But I've been saying for years NZ would make for a great GTA! We can buy up large in Hamilton, and get drive-by-ed by the "Killer Beez"! (bzzz!)

 I personally wouldn't like the game if it wasn't located in America.

I don't want the main character to be in a mission where he is the coast guard and the ship says "heeelp, we are sinking" and our character to say "what are you sinking about?"

Hey guys, but now we'll have GTA "Russian mafia in NY" (I mean GTA4)! And it's great. Rockstar, your doing the right thing!
The next GTA should be with American gangstas in Moscow ;)
