GTA IV: Locations

Liberty City returns again in Grand Theft Auto IV, although as with every generation leap, Rockstar has changed the city significantly. With the increased power of the consoles running the game the city is now closer to New York City than ever before but of course, there are plenty of Rockstar twists and changes.

Liberty City will contain four of the five New York City boroughs and part of New Jersey. You'll start in Broker, the game's version of Brooklyn and you'll be able to advance to Algonquin (Manhattan), Dukes (Queens), Bohan (Bronx), and Alderney (New Jersey).

How Large Is Liberty?

In comparison to San Andreas the total map area is smaller. However, the new Liberty City is the largest individual and most detailed city to date. Rockstar has said that Liberty City will be comparable to San Andreas in terms of scope when one takes into account "the level of verticality of the city, the number of buildings you can go into, and the level of detail in those buildings." In addition, Dan Houser has also stated that that there would not be any "dead spots" or "irrelevant space" within Liberty City, unlike the countryside and deserts filling a substantial amount of map area in San Andreas.
