How do you get it if your PC that you installed it on doesnt have a internet connection?

For now... you don't. Also this update screwed up my game, probably because I have modded files. I tried reverting all the mods - not sure if I missed anything, but yeah it still wouldn't launch. I'm reinstalling now. Soooo if you've modded your game, you should do your best to get rid of the mods before updating :P

How typical is that of the big gaming companys to make sure you can't mod there game for your enjoyment.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. Well in that case I understand. But then they could have done something else couldnt they? Like implement actull mods some how for non online play and then people wouldnt have to hack files.

The update is not LIVE only (which is a good thing for people like me who want their savegames stored f**kin' locally) If you don't want to use LIVE, you can also download the patch at FilePlanet. I suppose other game and download sites will follow soon.

Thanks to the patch, I no longer have sound (weapons, walksound, people, vehicles) in the game. I can only hear music.
The benchmark on the other hand gives sound.

No problems with the patch here... I can now start the game without running a burn-in test, and I can finally bowl.

tried it out, but it still freezes after a minute, needs pc reset. Quite scary: read the new liscence agreement... o_O.
Anyway if R* is not communicating better, I could really consider to return it, fortunatly the LA is against European Law and thus every store is obliged to take it back as well as Take2 is. I'm quite feeling fooled by these guys, always and still talking about 'small numbers of players having trouble' and stuff.
You can see the worth of a company if there is a problem, problems can happen, the right way would be to stick to the groups which have problems and to explain what happens when and where is the problem. I'm not sure what to do with this game at the moment, R* still has a plus on my publisher ranking, because of its previous works ... they are using it up at the moment.

works perfectly for me now using 8.12 + patch the game just flys at max settings ( only traffic density @ 51%)

I actually uninstalled GTA4 last night, (I'm not sure why - I didn't need the disk space, I was just annoyed at it's existence) before I saw that the patch had come out. But I have to be honest, looking at what people are saying, I doubt it's going to do anything for me as I'm an SLI 8600 user.
I put up with the flaky GTA3 performance when it came out - that was bearable, I had a decidedly bottom of the range PC compared to the specs, and eventually when I went back a few years later with a new PC it was great.
This time, it's unplayable, and I have to be honest when I say that I can't see anything that justifies the requirements it needs (and my spec exceeds their 'recommended').
It'd be the first game I'd ever taken back, but I'm seriously considering it. Very sad :(

If I were you I would give the patch a try anyway before returning the game. There are a few people who report very positive effects, and it's probably not more because they're all playing now...
Apart from that I have to agree with you, the lack of QA in this product is a disgrace for Take2, Rockstar, and Microsoft.

i got it and it works fine. But i think i pefer the game with out it;. Because my gta iv was working a hell of alot better with out the patch to be honest
