2004 GTA: San Andreas, Irrevent References
GTA: San Andreas - General News | @ 08:05 PM MDT | By Zidane
Here's a little something from 1up.com that I found interesting - the meanings behind the names of various things throughout San Andreas. If you have some extra time on your hands, you should give it a read. You can check it out here.
Update by Neil: I found the names of the horses in San Andreas' betting shops particularly interesting. Perhaps it's my sharing of the Scottish culture, but this area is overlooked by everyone, unless of course you know what it means. Picking out a few, Dundee Ned is probably the most funny of the bunch. Dundee being Rockstar North's original location when named DMA Design back in the 1990's, and a 'ned' being a "Non Educated Delinquent", often referred to as a "Chav" south of the border. These youths can usually be found loitering around Britain's larger towns and cities, with an acquired taste for cheap wines like Buckfast.
There's a couple of references to Scottish Football (soccer) in there aswell, like Scotland Nil, an all too popular line read by many a newscaster following an international game. Also there's Henrik's Jaw, a rather abrupt reference to former Glasgow Celtic goalscorer Henrik Larsson and his jaw breakage that saw him sidelined from football for a period in 2003 - during the time San Andreas was in development.
