Major Vice City Bugfix Plug-Ins

GTA: Vice City - Modifications | @ 12:00 PM MDT | By Ash_735
Well we all know that the 10th Anniversary Edition of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is being released next week (December 6th) for iOS and Android, touted with improved lighting and effects, but what about PC gamers? Well, I'm sure quite a few of you out there already know, Rockstar Games cut out some things when porting Vice City to the PC, either on purpose or by accident, but now thanks to one special modder, you can get these things back and it's as simple as dropping a small file into your VC Directory!

So let's take a look at these, first up is the Vice City Trails plug-in, as PlayStation 2 owners will know, Vice City had an extra display option for Trails which gave off a kind of bloomed and hazy look to the game to add to the atmosphere, this was disabled in the PC version and originally only available through EXE hacking, but now it's available for nearly all EXE's (including Steam v1.1) as a simple asi plug-in:

Next up we have the Road Reflections Fix, now this one isn't totally Rockstar's fault, this is more a future proof measure, if you played ANY of the Grand Theft Auto games on modern PC hardware, beyond an AGP Graphics Card, the game would not render the road reflections during the rainstorms, this plug-in corrects that, it re-enables the setting and you even have a choice now to force them on all the time! This plug-in can be used with Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas too!

Here we have a very overlooked feature, this is the Rosenberg Audio Fix, now once again, PlayStation 2 users will remember that after being Busted by the cops, sometimes the game would play a quote from Tommy's Friend and Lawyer, Ken Rosenberg, sadly this was another feature that got messed up in the PC port, the game would play the initial quote and then forever remain silent after being Busted, luckily this plug-in corrects that mistake and once again you can hear all of the recorded quotes in the game:

The final plug-in I wanted to show off today is a small one but it's still nice, it's the Loading Screen Restoration plug-in, when you play the PC version of Vice City, you only get one screen during loading process, this was done because we assume it's because the PC version loads much faster than the PlayStation 2 version, but these files are still on your computer and this plug-in activates them again! They zoom by pretty quickly but it does make a nice change from the usual one screen you always see, plus as an added bonus, this one will work with Grand Theft Auto III and activate the loading screens on that game as well:

So for anyone who's about to replay Vice City again, I'd consider the above plug-ins a requirement, not only do they fix things where Rockstar messed up (Rosenberg Audio and Road Reflections) but they also enable features that were cut out of the PC versions for whatever reason (Trails and Loading Screens), with the upcoming 10th Anniversary Edition out in just over a weeks time, PC users don't have to feel left out, and best of all, these plug-ins are small, easy to install, and they work with most versions of the game, including the Steam v1.1 EXE, so be sure to check them out!

Sweet! I'm actually slap in the middle of playing VC again on the PC and these will certainly be a welcome return for anyone who first played it on the PS2.

Awesome post!
