GTA V officially announced by Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto V - General News | @ 01:28 PM MDT | By Slim Trashman
Rockstar Games has released a more official statement regarding the next chapter in the GTA franchise, Grand Theft Auto V. Here's what they had to say:
We are very proud to officially announce that Grand Theft Auto V is in full development.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.

It appears that despite speculation, the game will take place in present day Los Santos along with surrounding environments and perhaps not the entire state of San Andreas.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to check out Grand Theft Auto V's debut trailer, released just yesterday.

Will be really disappointed if it's not all of San Andreas...

Should've just gone to Vice City if they were going to be that lazy.

Southern California is a massive area, though. It's not just Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles area alone covers a huge area (Los Angeles County is the largest in the US, population-wise). I wouldn't call them lazy so quickly.

IT'll be interesting to see ho big it ends up. Although looking at the trailer the game environment looks 1000X more interesting than GTA 4s. the best thing about San Andreas was going through all the different areas. The wind farm area, Vineyard the beach all that look like they'll be a ton of fun to stuff around in

Well it's just disappointing. It doesn't look like they have done a lazy job yet. Maybe the other areas will be DLC, or they are in the game and aren't telling us.

If it is the size of Liberty City, or smaller than there is no reason to have fighter jets and private jetliners.

I am sure they have something up their sleeves >_>

The "old man" looks a lot like John Noble, also starred in L.A. Noire.

Well technically they haven't ruled out the other two cities just yet...

Either way, I'm excited! The countryside is back, and maybe its better this way, Rockstar won't feel the need to do 3 cities EVERY time they make a sequel, but it is nice to have the surrounding countryside, with mountiains and dirt roads and planes!!! Can't wait to play it

I love the focus and attention R* gave to Liberty City in 4, and I feel they'll improve on their missteps. The DLC could change the game. Either new story lines or DLC San Fierro/Las Venturas.
