Chinatown Wars now available for iPhone and iPod touch

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 05:10 AM MDT | By Neil
Rockstar Games today released Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. In what can only be described as one of the quietest launches in the series' history, the game appeared on the App Store earlier this morning with no fanfare or announcement whatsoever.

Despite selling for just $9.99, early reports indicate the game is a faithful reproduction of the DS and PSP versions which went on sale last year. When those arrived, the game was quickly hailed as one of the greatest handheld games of all time.

Finally! I hope, that GTA is enough good mark to forget about advertising and still be great-selled.

I actually thought this game was pretty average, overhyped, Greatest Handheld Game Ever, I do sometimes wonder how much Rockstar paid those reviewers to say that. Anyway, wow, low key launch, I guess after the disappointing sales on both the DS and the PSP, Rockstar just gave up on advertising this game.

Ash why have you been so negative towards R* lately?

What they did with Chinatown Wars was amazing.

I wouldn't say I've been negative, just, more truthful, Chinatown Wars was good for what it was on the DS, but the reviews for it were soo biased it was laughable, especially the PSP version where certain reviewers actually stated that Chinatown Wars had some of the best graphics the PSP has to offer, what a load of bull! Considering 3 years prior Rockstar themselves released two games on the PSP that had better graphics and content!

To me, in my opinion that is, Chinatown Wars was an average game, I enjoyed LCS and VCS much more and certainly for the PSP versions I didn't feel like they were cheap ports to cash in. In terms of Sales Chinatown Wars has proven to be less than expected on both the DS and the PSP, which is why we also got this iPhone/iPod version. Rockstar just want to make as much back as possible from this game as really, it doesn't add up, I mean, Rockstar sunk a load of money into advertising this game, and reviewers turned around and said "BEST HANDHELD GAME EVER LOL!" yet sales were dire to what they expected, something went wrong somewhere.

Ok, if you have a 1st gen iPod touch, and try to download it using your ipod, you get the message "this app is not compatible". But it's just BS, download it through iTunes on your computer, and then sync your ipod. It should work fine now.

@Ash: just because you think it's an average game, doesn't mean the reviews were bias. I never saw a review where they said it was the best graphics anyways. Basing it off the iPod version, in my opinion CW is better than even VCS and LCS.

I'm sorry but if you read some reviews there IS bias in them, especially when it comes to Graphics being mentioned (also Sound!). And hey ho, I said it was my opinion about LCS and VCS being better anyway, but sales wise, they didn't tank. ;)

@LCstuntman - works on my iPod Touch just fine. At first it didn't as I needed to upgrade it which cost £2.99 (around $5 US)
