iPhone Chinatown Wars still MIA

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 09:38 AM MDT | By Neil
Chinatown Wars iPhoneBack in August, Rockstar Games revealed that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was being ported to iPhone (and iPod touch) and would hit Apple's App Store "this fall". With snow now falling outside my window and the leaves gone from trees completely, I started to wonder what has happened to this interesting new version of the game.

It was never given a specific release date, but my fears that we won't be seeing it by the end of the year were amplified when I read Take Two's Q4 2009 Financial Results. There is no mention of the iPhone version of Chinatown Wars anywhere in the document. It's particularly odd as the PSP version arrived on time and picked up the "Best Handheld Game" award alongside its Nintendo DS cousin at the 2009 Video Game Awards.

Rockstar Games has released one title for the platform so far - a $5 port of Beaterator, a music game. It doesn't appear to be doing to well, and at the time of writing has an average rating of just 2/5 stars on iTunes. Could this be causing the company to become nervous about iPhone development?

When it is finally released, the iPhone version of Chinatown Wars will be unique in the series as the only game controlled without using any physical buttons. Let's hope we get our first look at what could be a pivotal release in the series soon.

Are you looking forward to Chinatown Wars on iPhone and iPod touch? Do you own another version already or will it be your first time playing one of the highest rated handheld games of all time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Shame, I'm getting an iphone in a couple of weeks.
Even though I have CW on my PSP, I'd still get it in this format!

It probably was refused by Apple due to violence. Just be a little patient, I'm sure it'll be out soon when they re-submit it.

That so funny if its true.
Apple are almost more about the money, than M$.
So they'd be nuts to refuse a GTA on one of their products.

That's not true... Microsoft is just as... business oriented... as Apple, if not more.

Apple has very strict rules about their iPhone apps.

Many people who developed applications for the iPhone have had their apps pulled after a short time due to oxymoron issues.

And yeah. Microsoft makes Billions, so does Apple. They might differ in a few things, but the end goal stay the same, make more money and spend less.
