“The Feeling of Liberty” fan made video

Grand Theft Auto IV - Community News | @ 09:10 AM MDT | By Ash_735
YouTube member weses2 posted a brilliant video back in January 2009 titled “The Feeling of Liberty” and after receiving much praise for it he then brought it to our attention on the forums and personally I think it deserves a spot on the front page so here it is for those of you who haven’t seen it:

This was really good, but I'm surprised how popular it got - usually people only like stuff with loads of action :P I enjoyed how it showcased the beauty of the game - it resembled the first trailer in that sense.

This is one of the best fan made videos I have ever seen. Excellent work.

Very simple. Too simple. Great shots, but (in my opinion), no effort was really needed for the movie. I don't mean to be downer patrol, but I just didn't really enjoy it since it was so simple and extremely easy to make.

I still think, though, that it had a nice dramatic and gripping feel. I just found it very simple. Not that simple is bad, but I just found it to be simple enough that a 5 year old with experience could make it. I don't like it.

I agree with you, it wasn't really that awesome. Comparing this to the Magestic, two big differences. This is just slow-mo of gameplay, nothing really captivating. If it weren't for the song it wouldn't be so popular imo.

I am so jealous. My PC is crap and GTA IV does not work. I have it on my Ps3 but the video editor is absent there. I hope that i will upgrade my PC soon so i can make some montage on GTA 4 with the vid editor. But this video was gripping. It showed the good part of the game. BTW you can check my video on youtube called "Life in the City" I filmed it with my camera and edited it on WMM. My account is dakidakov

Effort was put into it! It took 2 weeks to make, I spent most of the time experimenting with how the camera works and trying to get the best angles possible. It's not that easy to do, especially with how glitchy the video editor is at the moment.

Weses, stop crying, and get used to it. I've made tons of videos that surely took a lot more effort to create, many got hundreds of thousands of views, while others got under 1 000, which is nothing. Just get yourself together, and prepare to walk through the fire! Just keep trying to make better and better videos, you should be pretty happy that the video even made it to the FP despite the small number of views.

I like this video. It in a simple way takes me back to the first time I saw the IV trailer. Nice job.

Ugh... I dunno, some people could put the most effort into a video and the final result might be awful, or amazing. People found my video good, so I posted it on the forums here. Then the people here saw it, thought it was good and put it on the FP. It's the quality that matters, not the number of views. Maybe your videos could get on the FP too if you posted them on the forums... give it a try! Thanks anyway, I'm always trying to make better videos. Your feedback helps

I agree, but you hate to agree with me that views often reflect quality, or at least its what you should stride for, I'm sure you would love to have 1 000 000+ views on your video, that would be awesome, wouldn't it ? :)

It sucks when your videos don't get the recognition that they deserve, since only you yourself know how painstaking they were to make. But around here, never ask for recognition, you'll just be booted off like I was :P

Sooner or later, everyone fades away, and when you come to that point, it will suck real bad. But what can you do?

Meh... I'm not really into the whole e-popular thing. I'm just happy to know that my videos are on the internet for people to see :) My video brought a lot of GTA fans to my channel before it was posted on the FP, they all liked it so I thought I'd share it with more GTA fans here. It felt like the right thing to do.

Well, what I can do is try to last as long as I can before that ever happens!

Sure man, whatever suits you :)

I thought it was fun to be known for great things :) E-popular became popular in real life with actual fans xD It was crazy man, some of the best times of my life :)

But good luck man, and keep it going!

I love the way that you edited it perfectly so the cuts were synced up with the music. It certainly isn't too simple if you ask me. The point of the video wasn't to make a storyline or a fan fiction. You really did an amazing job at making an enthralling video.

Weses, have you studied cinematography at all?

Excellent video. I don't agree that being simple makes it bad per se. Look at works of art - some of the best pieces are some of the simplest ones because they allow you to look at something differently - from different viewpoints; from a perspective you'd never noticed or thought of before. That doesn't make it of a poor quality. This is precisely what this video does well.

You can immediately tell that thought and effort have gone into making this. Admittedly the music adds an incredible amount to it, but rather than dominating it in an obvious and dramatic way like other videos, it compliments it perfectly. From what I see, a huge amount of effort has gone into this video in terms of the intricate detailing of the angles, lighting, pace, action, music and views. It's of a much higher quality than the majority of even the best GTA videos I'd say, just not in an obvious way.
