Some promotional Microsoft Points expire soon

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 01:27 PM CST | By Neil
Microsoft PointsGTA IV was a huge deal for retailers this year, so much so that many of them decided they'd throw in freebies when people bought the game. Many stores handed out free Microsoft Points to players and a popular idea for the use of the credits was to put them towards the GTA IV DLC which will be arriving in a few months.

GTAGaming reader Evan has written in today to alert us to the fact that some of the promotional points will be expiring today. Notably the 500 points that GAME awarded to customers will be rendered useless at midnight tonight. You've got just a few hours to spend them and if you don't manage it by the time the expiry date passes you'll be out of luck.

If you received points with your copy of the game and want to check if they expire, visit the Microsoft Billing website. Once you discover whether your points will expire, please let others know in the comments section of this news post.

It appears that the 1000 points which were given with preorders from HMV will not expire.

I got 500 points and some GTA IV gamerpics from EB Games Australia with my GTA IV preorder. I just tried the 500 point code and it is saying invalid code. It doesn't list an expiry date anywhere on the box or card, so legally/morally they should still have to honour it.

edit: I tried the points again today and they worked, so they must have fixed something. I checked billing.microsoft.com and there is no expiry date listed.

I'm curious if the people who added the points to their account before June 30 and had them expire will suddenly get 500 points back.
