DLC is a touchy subject for Sony

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 03:32 PM MDT | By Neil
This week saw a major event in the Sony Computer Entertainment calendar, with PlayStation Day taking place in London. As part of the event, a number of the company's top executives have been speaking to journalists about all manner of things. The most significant event for me was the announcement that PlayTV is coming to Europe for 99.99 in September.

Videogamer.com managed to pin down David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. They didn't beat about the bush and got straight to the point of asking him about the possibility of downloadable content for the PS3 version of GTA IV.

Reeves says that "you will probably see it" and that he believes that if it really is exclusive to Xbox 360 then he thinks "that's the last shot [Microsoft] have". His comments come just shortly after his company announced that PS3 is outselling Xbox 360 in Europe.

He also says that fans should email Rockstar with their thoughts rather than putting them to Sony, but it's possibly not going to be much use because he thinks that "they already are" working on DLC for the system.

More confusing news on this subject will follow until the day someone announces something concrete.

Hahaha. U think Microsoft would pay 50 million dollars for nothing? That's why they payed 50M to get exclusive DLC.

U really think they dont got contracts that simply wont allow rockstar do DLC for other platform?? It wouldnt make no sense to pay then ;) There will be no DLC for PS3. They are fooling people by not answering firmly just to make u buy the console. Just a marketing thing just like the big hard drive and Bluray which are totally useless.

The DLC the 360 will get means that whatever they get, no one else will. That doesn't mean the ps3 won't get any at all, just not what the 360 gets.

Are you a microsoft humper besonix? You stand up for them whenever you get the chance.

DLC is too much for me right now, and will be 1 year from now. Just like GTA: SA, GTAIV will keep me busy for a loooong time, and I won't even want to think about more. Though i I do, I'll just play on my friends 360 when and if he gets DLC too. 50mil for two mini exclusives is beyond ridiculous.

Seems like Sony are just putting out some PR to boost their sales. Fair play.
But as besonix says they won't be getting the same DLC content as the 360 players.
If they do M$ will serve up a stonker of a legal battle.

I take exeption to one comment by the clear Xbox fanboy up there...

The blue ray is NOT useless... as is evident by the fact that the format that MS threw in with... has already folded after a little over a year and a half of existence.... so while you may feel that Blue Ray is useless..... HD DVD is DEAD.

KSenager , it wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to pay 50M to get something that Sony can't have and then let them make something similar just for Sony. They got the best lawyers in the world, trust me , Microsoft is not stupid.

I guess he needs reminding that President Of Rockstar Games urged Microsoft to find a solution to it's low space problem, saying "Our games isn't going to get smaller so Microsoft needs to find a way."

So if next GTA turns out being PS3 exclusive because they couldn't fit it on a DVD, we can all agree with him on how useless Blu-Ray really is _

OperaGhost187 HDDVD was for watching movies.Bluray is nothing more than that. It's slow as hell, slow enough that GTA4 has to install a lot of content on the hard drive. There will probably a new generation in 2010 and games wont get bigger than 8.5gb until then. The biggest thing in a game is the sound. Most of the game developers dont even bother to compress it and it stil fits on 8.5Gb.If you compress the sound, 8.5gb is plenty.

No, it isn't slow. It's speed is comparable to the 360's DVD drive. If all 360s had HDDs, GTAIV would have installed on 360s too. Also, R* themselves have said once that games are getting too big for DVDs and that they had an issue with that while developing GTAIV for the 360.

I do have a 360 and am loving GTA IV. On the subject of DLC, Yes I will be purchasing it but it's just a little extra perk in my opinion. It's not really needed. I think in the end M$ will find that they spent a little too much money on DLC.

Actually the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs have the highest 1080p format. So the quality is the same. Blu-Ray does have a slightly higher transfer rate as well. Blu-Ray does have a larger storage capacity disc than the HD-DVD. Thats about the only advantage. So watching a movie, you really can't tell a difference. One of the main reasons people choose Blu-Ray is so they have more storage space when they burn a dvd from their pc. Theres nothing more annoying than trying to burn a dvd and the screen reads "capacity of disk filled". The "SONY" name doesn't hurt them at all either. I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook and it can play HD-DVD's so if I was to choose one now it would be the HD-DVD.

@ the punisher:
Do your research better man.
The PS3 blu-ray drive is great but its read speed is no where near that of the 360's standard DVD drive.
