GTA IV's five star rating

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 09:56 AM MDT | By Neil
British movie magazine Empire is the latest publication to reveal their thoughts on GTA IV in a review. In the online piece, reviewer David McComb awards the game a perfect rating of five out of five stars, saying that the game is "damn near perfect".
"From the new GPS that uses coloured lines to guide you through the busy streets – allowing players to focus on the action with the GPS in their peripheral vision, rather than constantly taking your eye off the road to squint at the tiny map – to the stripped-down displays that remove clutter from the screen, GTA IV feels friendlier and more accomplished than its predecessors."

IGN and GameSpot will give it good scores but don't expect "perfect" scores from them. They save those for the games they're paid off to promote.

That's right, I went there!

I await their 9.6 ratings!

Oh, fave quote:

"New ‘ragdoll physics’ – which allow the bodies of virtual humans to react like their floppy, real-world counterparts – also makes the game feel more earthy, and will be an endless source of amusement for sickos as they drive through crowds of bystanders to see their wobbly bodies bouncing off the hood of their ride."

Count me as one of those sickos.

I think every GTA player gets on it for that reason alone! To kill anything in its path! lol

thugskater and TheBeast:

You're right. Wasn't there something about a guy getting fired for giving Assassin's Creed a low score?

Can we trust anyone these days?

I read EGM, and I think those guys are legit.

Manlington (awesomeness all over your screen name dude)

It was actually Kane and Lynch, which was horrendous. Jeff/Geoff Gerstmann (forgot the first name spelling) was "laid off" because GameSpot supposedly couldn't pay him anymore. Of course, this laying off occurred right after his ubernegative "rip it a new one" review of Kane and Lynch appeared on the site. The review was pulled, Gerstmann was fired, and the proverbial manure hit the proverbial fan.

I trust an IGN review more than a GameSpot (which was paid to give Driv3r a good score, fyi) one.

Drive-thee-er: Man, you had to paid to give that a score above 4/10.

I played the Kane & Lynch demo and just laughed at the quality. Shooting team mates in the phase was endlessly hilarious.

Also, none of these revied mentioned frame rate issues, a problem that has been discussed on other videogame forums I frequent. Guess that's a good sign.

i like the 5* rating its totally a beautiful one. but mostly its opinion of course ,anyone who likes shooter/driving games is gonna feel right at home but for some who like fantasy and sonic type games its not a very good game. but,,if youre a huge gta fan that plans on going to get the game a midnight launch with special edition and stocked up on cofee for that night and the rest of the morning and day youll give it 11/10 XD

Manlington926, TheBeast: Lay off those games, I thought they were good, especially Kane & Lynch, very underrated due to one stupid review and a load of backlash from fanboys of the reviewer. As for Driv3r, after hearing it was suppose to be the worst game of all time I actually enjoyed it, sure the camera and on foot controls were fuck awkward but the graphics were decent (could of used a bit of AA), the story, cast and soundtrack were amazing.

ash_735: Drive-Three-Er certainly looked good, and I had fun driving around the cities and wrecking shit. But the controls sucked and the missions were lame and derivative.

Also, I only played the Kane & Lynch demo. Perhaps I am lacking the whole experience.

@ Manlington926:

rockstar said they tweeked around with the framerate so it was buttery smooth on both systems.. prolly one of the many reasons it was delayed. they wanted it to get the scores theyre getting now.. and hey, wouldnt you do the same? :D

for the record... driver 3 blew. end of story. kane and lynch i didnt want to try because of the graphics and the gameplay looked lacking... thats the only reason i didnt try it.

ign should hire gerstmann >.>

This is good news. I was confident that the game would be smooth, but I still had a nagging doubt. This game can't come soon enough.

I heard a rumour the other day that some significant cuts had been made to the game due to censorship... particularly in the UK version....

If anyone knows anything about I would love to know! Please inform!
