Jeuxactu previews GTA IV

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 11:35 AM MDT | By rappo
French gaming site Jeuxactu played a five hour preview of GTA IV and have written their own review of the gameplay. After the wave of previews last week, not much of this may seem new, but here are some points worth mentioning (translated by BenDeR_):
  • It took 5 years and 300 people to develop GTA IV.
  • The smallest details have been taken into account, from non-working bulbs to newspapers flying in the wind.
  • Peds live their lives like any other human. Law Enforcement Agencies will be checking papers, a businessman is walking faster than other peds, a woman is making a phone call in a phone booth, and so on.
  • They talk about Liberty City being as big as San Andreas.
  • Bodybuilding will no longer be in the game and you won't be able to make money by buying businesses anymore.
  • If you commit a very serious crime, the army will be against you. You'll see heavily armed soldiers.
  • By keeping good relationships, Niko may have some clues for future missions.
  • According to the website, it'll take 60 to 70 hours to complete the game.
  • Italians, Puerto Ricans, Russians, Jamaicans, Chinese Triad and Mafia are some of GTAIV's gangs.
  • It might take more than one try to start a car or a motorbike.

The total time of gameplay in GTA IV has been given some contradictory reports. In 2007 previews reported that it would take 130+ hours, the later previews reported that it'll require 100 hours, while this one states 60 to 70 hours - we can't be quite sure of the actual timing, so take this information for what it's worth.

I'm glad they're keeping the Triads in Liberty City...they were definitely my favorite opponents in GTA III.

You can never be sure how long it will take what the hell, how can you tell from a 5 hour preview? :/

I'm guessing if you race like a madman to finish the game as soon as possible, going mission to mission, not caring about anything else, skipping cutscnenes etc- It'll be around 90hours mark but playing normally, messing about HAVING FUN, it will last you well over 100 hours I think.

Who cares, just play lol.
We know it's not going to be short that's for sure and replay value of GTA is always 10/10.

This preview wasn't that good by the way but thanks for posting.
I didn't know that sometimes you needed more than one try to start a vehicle so that's nice to know.

Yeah, I'm sure they received the same sort of preview that everybody else did last week - so how good could their information be? :P Just a few little bits of good info in there...

About the gameplay...I'm guessing Rockstar gave them some information about the number of missions and side-missions and they figured a gameplay time based on that. I agree, though, it's not really that important - it'll take a while, that's all we really need to know! But some people want to hear it, so we report it ;)

An earlier report said "Genres include funk, reggae, jazz, dance, Jamaican, pop, hardcore, hip hop and an Eastern European station." Although that's not a definitive list. There are going to be about 18 radio stations in all, so who knows...Latin music may be one of them.
