DECT2: Still no clarification on GTA IV release
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 04:09 PM MDT | By Neil + Slim Trashman
Take Two Interactive today released its financial results for the final quarter of fiscal year 2007, which ended on 31st October. The company's finances are in improving shape, with an increase in profit being attributed to Bioshock's impressive sales, which have crossed the two million mark.
Often the company uses this time as an opportunity to reveal final release dates for upcoming titles but today all the company would clarify about Grand Theft Auto IV was that it will be on store shelves in the second fiscal quarter of 2008. This means that it will release some time between February 1st and April 30th. The company restated that it is committed to seeing the game release simultaneously on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The company also confirmed that the first episodic content for GTA IV will hit Xbox 360 by 31st October 2008. The second of the packages, which Microsoft famously paid a total of $50million for, will release some time before 31st October 2009. The significance of this is that it almost certainly rules out any further GTA titles appearing at retail before 2010.
An interesting question was fielded to executives during the associated conference call - will Grand Theft Auto IV be coming to Nintendo Wii? The company's response was that "there are other titles better suited for the Wii than Grand Theft Auto IV". While this suggests that GTA IV won't be released for Wii, they did not rule out the possibility of an alternative or unique game being released for the growing platform.
