Chinatown Wars coming to iPhone and iPod touch

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 09:39 AM CST | By Neil
Chinatown Wars iPhoneRockstar Games just announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be released for iPhone and iPod touch later this year. No screenshots have been released, but the game is being developed by Rockstar Leeds and will be available in the fall.

The game was released for Nintendo DS earlier this year and is currently the console's highest rated game according to Metacritic. A PSP version will arrive at around the same time as the iPhone version.

When released on the App Store, the game will face some competition from similar titles like Payback, Gangstar: West Coast Hustle and Car Jack Streets. GTAGaming covered the latter a few months ago when it was released by Tag Games, a company founded in the same city as DMA Design/Rockstar North.

RealizmIV: GTA IV environment enhancement

Grand Theft Auto IV - Modifications | @ 11:27 PM CST | By rappo
Almost all of us who have played GTA IV on the PC have experienced the same thing - our computer hardware is decent but GTA IV just wants more! This thirst to get out of the medium settings and low FPS range in GTA IV is what lead the RealizmIV team to create a brand new graphical enhancement for the game.

Download now!

There have been other enhancements for GTA IV released in the past, but RealizmIV seems to be the most well-planned and complete one of them all. The main mod installation will allow you to bump up your GTA IV settings without seeing a drop in FPS, as well as enhance the environment effects like weather and shadows for added realism. The RealizmIV team also offers a complete texture overhaul to give you higher quality textures and lower FPS rates!

Check out the video preview below:

Due to its file size, the mod isn't available for download straight from our database, but I've compiled all the links you need in an HTML file available for download at GTA4-Mods.com.

USA Today reveals few TBOGT plot details, confirms parachuting

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:30 AM CST | By rappo
USA Today has just recently published a small article about The Ballad of Gay Tony. Along with the same information we've heard for a while, the article contains a new screenshot, some quotes from Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser, and the following details about missions (including the parachuting mission, which we'll probably be seeing clips of in today's trailer):
Packed with action set pieces à la films such as Mission: Impossible and Bad Boys, Gay Tony has Luis at one point parachuting from a helicopter onto a glass-windowed skyscraper. Inside he blasts his way to his prey a few floors below and shoots his target, who then topples out of the bullet-ridden window. Luis dives out after him, wearing a parachute that glides him to safety.

In another scene, Luis drops on to the top of a moving subway train from a bridge and unhooks one of the cars for a maniacal high-rolling collector of one-of-a-kind artifacts. A Skyhook chopper airlifts the freed subway car away.

So in case there was still any speculation, the parachuting is definitely confirmed! Now the only question that remains is whether or not the parachuting feature will be available outside this particular mission.

The article also sheds some light on the overall plot of the DLC:
The drug-addled Tony, losing a grip on his empire, puts Luis in dangerous circumstances in an attempt to retain his power.

...

Luis is torn between friends and family and his quest for power and riches. But as he climbs higher in Liberty City's social circles, he discovers that the upper crust has some issues.

Longest time playing GTA IV: World Record Attempt

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 10:51 PM CST | By Slim Trashman
As tweeted by Rockstar, Indian GTA fan Chirantan Patnaik has begun his world record attempt for the longest continuous playing time of Grand Theft Auto IV.

The current record, at 28 hours, is held by Jim Patton. Patnaik is aiming to surpass 30 hours of play.

He will be streaming the entire attempt live online from his blog.
» Watch Chirantan attempt to break the world record live!

An article over at Tech2.com: India covering the attempt provides us with further details, including that Chirantan will be allowed 10 minute breaks every hour to eat, drink, etc. It is also noted that he has never played GTA IV before, and that he selected the game because the open world structure "would suit him best."
Saint’s Row 2 was crossed off because apparently it’s "too gangsta".

GTAGaming wishes Chirantan the best of luck in his world record attempt!

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars PSP Hands On

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 12:45 PM CST | By Ash_735
Recently over at EuroGamer they have put up a detailed article about the PlayStation Portable version of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars including revelations such as how the controls would work compared to the Nintendo DS version and how the game feels new again thanks to the work done by Rockstar Leeds who have crafted this game to the PlayStation Portables strengths. A Rockstar rep goes on to say in the article:
"All the textures are in much higher resolutions now. We've changed how Huang moves and the pedestrians have more movement in their animations. The fire effects have been completely redone. The night-time lighting effects look phenomenal because we can play around with bloom effects, so it all looks very different."

And even goes on to comment about the controls:
"We're happy with how the mini-games worked out, they were cool and funky, but you had to stop and take out the stylus to play them. With the PSP version, we haven't put quick-time events in there like everyone was worried we would. We use the face buttons, the analog nubbin and the D-pad to make it feel like something that's fitting for the platform. It's very tactile."

EuroGamer also reveals a main difference between the two versions which may please some readers:
One thing that's very different from the DS game is the soundtrack. No more plinky-plonky midis - the audio's been fully remastered and there's much more depth to it this time around. Plus there are more than two hours of brand new music, played across seven new radio stations. Good news for those who find the soundtrack to be an essential highlight of the GTA experience.
