NXE update reduces GTA IV install size

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 07:52 PM MDT | By Ash_735
Just a little heads up for our Xbox 360 owners, as you may know there is another update for the NXE coming the 11th of August which adds some features and tweaks to the current system. One new tweak is in fact an improved Game Installer that now gets rid of Dummy files within the ISO it creates on your Xbox 360 Hard Drive, reducing the amount of space the games take up.

I can confirm now with the new update, Grand Theft Auto IV will take up 6.5GB of your Xbox 360 Hard Drive space compared to the 6.8GB it takes up if you install it with the current NXE, a saving of 300MB which will help you out if you are short of space.

Mitchell Maniac's "Flying through Liberty"

Grand Theft Auto IV - Community News | @ 10:52 AM MDT | By rappo
GTAGaming member Mitchell Maniac has created a new video I thought we should share. Titled "Flying through Liberty," the video showcases the beauty and detail of Rockstar's virtual city. The result is a wonderfully relaxing video that could probably be used in a demo reel by Rockstar Games themselves!

VLE 1.05: next look into VCO's future

GTA: Vice City - Modifications | @ 08:49 PM MDT | By ReGeX + Mex + rappo
We're proud to introduce to all Vice City Online fans the newest installment of VCO Lua Extensions "VLE," version 1.05, created by VCO Project Coordinator Mex! This full-featured VLE release is packed with the gadgets and gizmos which were rendered unavailable in previous version, thus maximizing the strength and power of this well-rounded project.

Version 1.05 is the sixth installment to the series, and is by far the largest in terms of content and functionality. This is the proof of Mex's dedication to VCO and knowledge of Lua: he has completely rewritten the structure of VLE, improving execution and delivery over a period of two months. Mex has also made sure to make as much as possible fully dynamic to the limitations of VCO to allow for smoother compatibility! Some key features implemented in the release include:
  • Full compatibility with Linux servers, given the new configuration options.
  • Easy-to-use and easy-to-set-up functionality compared to previous versions.
  • New preprocessors for creating and executing plugins and game modes wrapped around VLE.
  • Over TWO HUNDRED commands with easy, logical, and documented syntaxes.
  • Crashes due to the timer system have been repaired, thus improving overall server stability.

What would any update be without new paramount commands? VLE 1.05 introduces commands which have been cloaked by our imaginations; check some of them out:
  • /BIND allows users to bind a command to another command, with DYNAMIC parameters! Think of the possibilities.
  • /ADDCMDPREFIX allows users to add AND remove character prefixes for commands.
  • /MARKERCMD binds a specified command to a VLE marker, which automatically executes when a player enters that marker.
So, as you can see, VLE is the "King of the Hill" in regards to VCO - there is only one way to go from here - up! So, what are you waiting for? Head over to GTAGaming's VLE forum topic, the Unofficial VCO Website's forum topic, or even the official VLE site today for more information about downloading!

New GFWL update lays foundations for GTA DLC

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 09:02 AM MDT | By Neil
Microsoft has just updated its Games for Windows LIVE client, adding a few features which could work out well for GTA IV owners. Most notably, the company has added support for in-game marketplace browsing, meaning that it's now a much more user-friendly experience to get DLC for your game. The company has showcased the functionality with Street Fighter IV which has gained a few costume packs which players can buy using the infamous Microsoft Points.

While The Lost and Damned and the forthcoming Ballad of Gay Tony are currently only confirmed for release on Xbox 360, the fact that Microsoft is paying so much attention to DLC on GFWL can only be viewed as a ray of hope for owners of the PC version of GTA IV. The new system brings GFWL much closer to its console counterpart's functionality and there are a couple of other features which should have PC gamers taking notice.

The first is the ability to register games to your profile so that they can be installed an unlimited number of times, provided you have your account details to hand. Unfortunately this won't extend to GTA IV, which uses an additional layer called SecuROM on top of Microsoft's software.

The other is "zero day" authentication for games, and it's far less appealing. Microsoft can now control when games are able to be played and ensure that everyone has to wait until release day to get stuck in.

Full details on the update can be found here.

Ballad of Gay Tony trailer coming "very soon"

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 04:28 AM MDT | By Neil
Showing an ever-increasing interest in Twitter, Rockstar Games revealed late yesterday that it plans to release a trailer for The Ballad of Gay Tony "very soon".

In response to a question from a 'follower' about a potential trailer, the company said "don't worry, it's coming - very soon". Once again there are so specifics, so we'll just have to wait for it to finally show up.

The Ballad of Gay Tony remains an Xbox 360 exclusive and launches on Xbox Live and on a compilation disc called Episodes from Liberty City later this year.

Leito's "One Day in a Sniper's Life"

Grand Theft Auto IV - Community News | @ 05:04 PM MDT | By rappo
Today we bring to you another GTA IV video done by a GTAGaming member, this time from Leito. This story, the first of a multiple-part series, chronicles the life of a sniper (played by none other than Niko Bellic) in Liberty City. The voice acting is done in Polish, giving it that special Eastern European feel that fits well with Niko, with English subtitles. Watch it below or on YouTube:

We'd also like to mention that Mitchell Maniac has created the final two parts to his "Flying Through Liberty" series that we posted about earlier. Both videos are available on our forums!
