GTA IV modding highlights

Grand Theft Auto IV - Modifications | @ 01:57 PM MDT | By rappo
With the recent updates of both SparkIV and OpenIV to allow for the replacement of in-game textures, there has been an explosion in Grand Theft Auto IV mods. Here, I'll highlight some of the best downloads made available in our file archive this past week:

GTA IV Car Spawner

Alexander Blade has created an excellent tool for spawning any vehicle in GTA IV.

The application allows you to define hotkeys for any vehicle or simply minimize your game and select the vehicle to spawn. The vehicle will take a second to load and then appear right in front of you in game.

WPL Manager

This tool allows you to edit WPL files, which contain the coordinates of where models are loaded in GTA IV's map.

Right now you can only edit the models loaded and its coordinates, but a future version will include the ability to add new models!

The Joker

Swedish M90 Camoflauge

Niko Biker

Johnny Klebitz

LCPD Outfit

Terrorist Mod

Red Leather Jacket

Puma Clothes

GTA IV mod installation tutorials now available

Grand Theft Auto IV - Website Updates | @ 09:58 PM MDT | By rappo
As promised during the launch of our brand new download database, the GTA IV mod installation tutorials are now live. There are currently three in-depth tutorials online: how to make your game Ioddable, how to install data file mods (such as handling.dat and Weaponinfo.xml mods), and how to install texture mods (such as player skins). The tutorials use real mods as examples and walk you through each step required to install them.

There will be more tutorials to come, especially as the scope of GTA IV modding increases, but these three should be adequate for beginning modders at the moment. I'm also looking to have these tutorials translated into other languages, so if anybody is interested in doing that, feel free to contact me!

Click here to read the tutorials

Enjoy the modding, and remember to post in out GTA modding forum if you need any additional help.

More advancements in GTA IV scripting: C++ Script Hook

Grand Theft Auto IV - Modifications | @ 09:13 PM MDT | By rappo
Aru, the developer that brought us one of the first modding ability patches, has created a code base that allows you to utilize GTA IV's native functions through C++.

It acts in much the same way as Alexander Blade's Alice project, except instead of using LUA it uses C++, a much more powerful and intuitive programming language. This will once again broaden modding abilities, and hopefully be a stepping stone into some real mission modding.

The download is source code only and is targeted for those that are familiar with C++ programming. If you're a developer that wants to see some mods made or even an optimistic beginner, head over to this GTAForums thread for more information along with a download link!

GTA teaches a 6-year-old to drive

GTAGaming.com - General News | @ 04:58 PM MDT | By zombienm
Normally when the GTA franchise makes national news, it's for its violence and how it 'inspires' kids to commit violent crimes. That's not the case here, however.

A 6-year-old boy from Virginia says the game taught him how to drive. Determined to make it to school after missing the bus, the young boy stole the keys to his parents Ford Taurus and drove himself. He made it over six miles before finally crashing into a utility pole. He suffered only minor injuries.

GTA IV Bodyguard Mod v0.2

Grand Theft Auto IV - Modifications | @ 05:57 PM MDT | By rappo
NOTE: apologies to those that downloaded v0.1. The script was created incorrectly and didn't allow most people to run it. It should be fine now, so download away!

With the recent release of aru's C++ Script Hook, I've had an easier time making higher level mods for GTA IV. Throughout the day I've been working on a new one that I thought some of you would enjoy:

GTA IV Bodyguard Mod v0.2

Right now, this script allows you to spawn bodyguards in-game by pressing F7. These guards all come wielding an M4 rifle, and they're ready to use it. Anybody that begins to attack you, such as police officers, will get taken down by these guards. These invincible guards with great accuracy will also be your enemies' top targets.

In this version of the script, the guards' character models are all the same, and they all have the same weapon, but future versions will hopefully allow the user to choose how to spawn guards. This version was more of a test for myself, but it worked pretty nicely so I figured I should share.

To make the script run, all you have to do is download and install an ASI Loader like Alice or XLiveless. Enjoy, and stay tuned for some more updates!

Chinatown Wars rated 18 by BBFC

GTA: Chinatown Wars - General News | @ 07:16 AM MDT | By Neil
When Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars goes on sale in the UK on March 20th, it will set a precedent as the first Nintendo DS title to receive the British Board of Film Classification's highest game rating - 18.

The game is said to contain "very strong language and drug references", in an environment which includes the majority of the Liberty City seen in GTA IV. Gamers in North America can look forward to the game three days earlier, on March 17th.

GTA IV Bodyguard Mod update

Grand Theft Auto IV - Modifications | @ 01:12 AM MDT | By rappo
Thanks to all those that downloaded and provided feedback on my GTA IV Bodyguard Mod, I'm now proud to present a big update to the mod! The controls got an overhaul to accomodate a lot of new features. Here's a list of updates in this version:
  • Discard all guards: once discarded, they will simply walk off and act as pedestrians. When they are far enough out of your view, they will disappear.
  • Change character model: there are about 340 models to choose from - everyone from Ricky Gervais to strippers!
  • Change weapon: choose which weapon you want your next guard to spawn with.
  • Toggle invincibility: spawn your next guard as invincible or mortal.

UPDATE: January 11 - Fixed bug (for the most part) where guards were sometimes idle during missions.
UPDATE: January 10 - I fixed a couple of bugs (involving discarding guards) that were crashing users' games. If you were experiencing problems, I suggest you redownload the mod!
  • Fixed bug where game would crash if you had too many dead guards
  • Fixed bug where guards turned on you or each other
  • Guards now get an MP5 no matter what other weapon you choose so that they can perform driveby's

All of these settings are applied on a per-guard basis, so you can mix and match them up as much as you like! All of the new controls are detailed in the ReadMe.

Thanks for downloading, and be sure to report any bugs you receive as they appear.
