MAYGTA IV walkthrough in the works
Grand Theft Auto IV - Website Updates | @ 09:51 PM CST | By rappo
Let me start off by saying that this guide is nowhere near complete... in fact, it's hardly started. But, over the past couple days I have been developing a system for staff to enter mission information and have it displayed for visitors in an organized fashion.
With that said, I present to you the very early stages of our GTA 4 walkthrough. We realize that there are hundreds of guides out there, but as a GTA fansite we figured we should have a go at it as well. Currently available is a list of all mission bosses and their respective missions as well as some information on the in-game strangers. Most of the information is missing for now, but it should hopefully be filled up soon! We're also looking into video and screenshot capture devices in order to get some video guides and interactive maps up.
If you think you have what it takes, you can contribute to the walkthrough, too! On the left of every mission box, you'll see a "contribute" icon (which looks like a piece of paper and pencil). Clicking that will take you to a contribution form where registered GTAGaming members can fill in missing data or provide revisions for current information. The submissions will be reviewed, edited, and posted by staff where it seems fit.
In short, we're all enjoying GTA IV, but we wanted to remind you that the staff is still alive and that game content is currently brewing behind the scenes.

MAYBizarre multiplayer Easter egg
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 12:25 AM CST | By rappo
A user from the GameTrailers forum has provided screenshots for a strange multiplayer "Easter egg" (of sorts) that has been spotted by several players in the past. Click the box below to read about it:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click here to view)
First there was "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" and now... zombies ate my GTA IV multiplayer character? Apparently there have been many reports of zombie sightings in GTA IV's online multiplayer modes. This may have been brushed off as another San Andreas Bigfoot conspiracy at first, but a user who actually turned into the yellow Rockstar speedo-wearing zombie took some photos for proof:
The official strategy guide mentions that "If you see unclothed characters, look out! Only players who have reached the max ranking of 10 and a few other 'special' people get the honor of shooting in their skivvies," but this particular user claims he is at rank 2. Other theories to explain this bizarre occurence include the user killing or getting killed by a Rockstar employee during multiplayer. Whatever the reason is, though, I'd say you're best bet is to run for your life.
MAYGTA IV #1 on Xbox Live and in the UK
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 05:29 PM CST | By Neil
Grand Theft Auto IV has claimed the number one spot in the chart of Xbox Live's most-played games, it was revealed today. Microsoft's community staffer, Larry Hryb, revealed in a blog post that the latest GTA has knocked Call of Duty 4 from the top of the chart, pushing Halo 3 into third place along with it.
Also today Chart Track announced that GTA IV sold 926,000 copies during its first week on sale, grossing £39.9m which easily places it as the most successful video game launch in UK history. Perhaps most interestingly though, GTA IV sold more copies in its first week than every game released in 2007 combined, excluding FIFA 08, Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training and Call of Duty 4.
MAYAchievement Unlocked: Score $500m at retail
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 10:11 AM CST | By Neil
It's Take Two's time to blow their own trumpet today, and the company has announced that around six million copies of GTA IV were sold during its first week on sale with around 3.6 million of those being flogged on the first day. These figures mean that the game is said to have grossed $500m to date (indicating that the average price paid for a copy was $83 worldwide across both standard and special editions).
It's worth remembering that in this day of hurrah, the revenue breakdown for a video game is vastly different to that of a movie. Chairman Strauss Zelnick has said that he believes that these sales figures "surpass any movie or music launch to date". However, in the case of many games, a cut of 20% (or more) of a game's cover price for retailers is not unheard of. Of course, these figures are always a closely guarded secret. Subtracting the game's estimated $100m development cost still leaves a healthy sum for Take Two though.
Also today, Microsoft announced that over 31 million hours of play had been racked up on the Xbox 360 version to date, with 9.7 million hours of play in the game's "seamless" Xbox Live multiplayer mode. Microsoft also reminds us of the exclusive episodes which are coming to Xbox Live this fall by claiming they'll provide "hours of additional gameplay".
MAYPS3 GTA IV gets patched
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 03:17 PM CST | By Neil
Looks like Rockstar is finally getting serious with the issues which have plagued their two most recent next-generation titles. While buyers of the Xbox 360 version of Bully: Scholarship Edition had to wait more than a week for a resolution to their freezing problems, owners of the PS3 version of GTA IV have greater luck.
Rockstar just released the v1.01 patch for GTA IV on PS3. It's 18MB, and according to reports on our forums, the servers that are being used to distribute it are almost as overloaded as the Social Club, so you'll have to be patient on this one. You'll be prompted to download the update the next time you play the game with your PS3 connected to PlayStation Network.
Rockstar Games has said that it "apologizes for the inconvenience caused", although with a tester list as long as the one on GTA IV (check the credits in your manual) we have to wonder just how effective those people who were hired to perform quality assurance on this title were.
MAYDLC is a touchy subject for Sony
Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 03:32 PM CST | By Neil
This week saw a major event in the Sony Computer Entertainment calendar, with PlayStation Day taking place in London. As part of the event, a number of the company's top executives have been speaking to journalists about all manner of things. The most significant event for me was the announcement that PlayTV is coming to Europe for €99.99 in September.
Videogamer.com managed to pin down David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. They didn't beat about the bush and got straight to the point of asking him about the possibility of downloadable content for the PS3 version of GTA IV.
Reeves says that "you will probably see it" and that he believes that if it really is exclusive to Xbox 360 then he thinks "that's the last shot [Microsoft] have". His comments come just shortly after his company announced that PS3 is outselling Xbox 360 in Europe.
He also says that fans should email Rockstar with their thoughts rather than putting them to Sony, but it's possibly not going to be much use because he thinks that "they already are" working on DLC for the system.
More confusing news on this subject will follow until the day someone announces something concrete.
