Two new screenshots

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 11:47 AM MDT | By Slim Trashman
nevermikel over at GTAForums has discovered 2 new screenshots on the back of a Spanish pre-order case for GTA IV. The screenshots display Niko getting arrested by two LCPD officers and a beautiful birds-eye view of Algonquin at night, featuring the Liberty City version of the Empire State Building. Note that the new screenshots in the image are located at the middle right and bottom.

Xbox 360 European price drop

GTAGaming.com - General News | @ 07:38 AM MDT | By Neil
Xbox 360 Arcade ConsoleJust in time for Grand Theft Auto IV, Microsoft today announced that it will shortly be reducing the price of all three Xbox 360 models in Europe. The console now carries an entry price of just £159.99 in the United Kingdom, which is lower than Nintendo Wii and just over half the cost of a PlayStation 3 in the region.

The Arcade console will retail for £159.99 in the UK and €199.99 in the rest of Europe. It's worth noting that it's unlikely that this console will be compatible with the previously announced episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV, which will no doubt be larger than the 256MB memory card included with this edition.

Alternatively, gamers can pick up the standard console, which includes a 20GB hard drive for £199.99/€269.99 or the high end Elite unit, with a 120GB drive for £259.99/€369.99. This interesting news may sway more undecided gamers away from Sony's console, which still has a recommended retail price of £299.99 in the UK.

Canal & Greene mural nearly complete

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:40 PM MDT | By rappo
The enormous GTA IV mural on Canal and Greene St. in Manhattan from last week's report is finally near completion. Although there isn't anything new about the photograph they put up, I just thought you'd all like to see the final product. It's probably the most creative advertisement I've seen for a video game, but I'm just wondering how many people driving by will take it seriously!

EDGE Magazine: new details, screenshots, artwork

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 07:18 PM MDT | By Slim Trashman
EDGE Magazine's April 2008 issue comes packed with a 16 page article on "The Making of Grand Theft Auto", with its main focus on, of course, GTA IV. The article goes rather in-depth, providing some interesting new details on the game, as well as several new screenshots and new/"complete" versions of artwork (You can view the scans of the article following the discuss link at the bottom of this post). Included in this big batch of new images was a wireframe birds-eye shot of Firefly Island, Liberty City's take on Coney Island
  • In GTA IV there are strip joints and, more unexpectedly, comedy clubs , which have been incorporated in a manner that is "enough to make your head spin." Edge aren't allowed to say anything else about it at the moment.
  • Jets and planes fly through the airport, and have visible pilots inside them. The tester drove alongside a jet, only to have a 4-star wanted level appear!
  • One encounter face-to-face with a cop got the response: "I'm a cop... and you're a dickhead!"
  • On the subject of multiplayer... Houser wasn't able to go into much detail, but he did mention being able to get together online in the game with no other goal other than to use it as a meeting place: "I'll meet you in a car and we'll hang and just drive and listen to music, chilling in the car, with your 3D model sat next to me," he says.
  • The car paint jobs are noticable from newer cars being gleaming and spotless, to old cars being rusted and dull.
  • Bulletholes are permanent, as is dirt on the cars, unless you take it over to the car wash.
  • Interior walls can be greatly damaged, "ripping chunks out of the plaster with gunfire."
  • Corpse Ride, obviously a ghost train-esque ride, quite a large building next to the liberty eye
  • The rollercoaster seen in trailer 1 is not visible, which perhaps means the park is larger than what is seen in the screen
  • The rides themselves definitely look accessible, perhaps can ride them for dating etc.

Update: We have updated the news with the new contents, as soon we received the scans.
  • Wireframed Firefly Island vs. Rendered Firefly Island

Six new Volkswagen mods

GTA: San Andreas - Modifications | @ 12:44 PM MDT | By rappo
We've added six new Volkswagen car mods to our GTA mods file archive - some of them are fairly similar to one another, but we're all about choices here!

GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen Golf V GTI Tuned
GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen Golf V GTI
GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen Golf IV
GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen Golf IV GTI
GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen Passat
GTA San Andreas car mod
Volkswagen W12

The very first one on the list (Golf V GTI Tuned) is my favorite from the list. Even though I'm usually not too into the "tricked out" style cars, that one was great! Enjoy.

KING Magazine reveals new soundtrack info

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 05:16 PM MDT | By rappo
The May 2008 issue of KING Magazine contains a small, three-page preview of GTA IV. Although there isn't anything new about gameplay in the article, KING scored an interview with artist DJ Green Lantern, who gave out some information about the GTA IV soundtrack and his own involvement:
  • DJ Green Lantern will have his own radio show filled with music he produced exclusively for GTA IV.
  • Other artists featured in the game are Styles P and Uncle Murda.
  • The song "Getaway Driver" by Maino will also be featured.
The amount of information he could release was obviously very limited due to legal reasons, but at least this is something! Thanks to raidenraider200 for the heads up, and for complete scans of the article please head to PlanetGTA. Feel free to discuss the new information in our GTA IV forums.

Hands-on impression from MTV: Two brand new screenshots

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 06:18 AM MDT | By Asif
MTV has just made a new entry about their recent hands-on impression on GTA IV. They were also provided with two brand new screenshots (see below) never seen before (albeit in smaller resolution than expected).

Here are the bullet points from the article:
  • Stephen Totilo (the previewer) experienced two hours of hands-on on both Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game.
  • "While we followed the rules of these missions, it became clear that Rockstar has tried to make "GTA IV" feel like less of a video game, a change that will likely excite fans and further horrify the series' critics."
  • "Extra guns and health packs don't float a few inches above the ground, waiting to be walked through. They lie on flat surfaces, waiting to be picked up."
  • "We wondered if the game's version of the Statue of Liberty was supposed to look like Hilary Clinton (not intentional, Rockstar says)"
  • "There is no "Mission Complete" graphical flourish as there had been in old games, just a brief instrumental riff to indicate a job's successful finish."
  • "Icons in the upper-right corner of the screen still display the player's equipped weapon and money, but they are reduced in size, subdued to blacks, grays and whites, doing as little as possible to distract the player's eyes."
  • "We took a helicopter for a joyride, in this case, in the PS3 build, traversing the city with haste, thrusting with the R2 button, rudder-turning with L1 and R1."
  • "The scenery was viewable from an optional in-cockpit, first-person view, the densely detailed Liberty City rolling by so quickly underneath"
  • "We stood Niko at the foot of Liberty City's Statue of Happiness and fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the statue, sending tourists fleeing and denting the statue not a bit"

Multiplayer information coming very soon!

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:01 PM MDT | By Neil
German gaming magazine Games Aktuell brings news today that its forthcoming issue will include the world's first details of Grand Theft Auto IV's multiplayer modes. The names of many of the events were revealed by Destructoid.com back in February and are believed to be accurate:
GTA IV will contain a deep multiplayer mode, including deathmatch, team play ("Cops 'n Crooks"), and some sort of ranked cooperative missions. Our source specifically talks about modes called "Deal Breaker," "Bomb da Base," and something called "Hangman's Noose," but gives no further details. The game will also feature ranked multiplayer races, likely across the game's open roads of Liberty City.
-- Destructoid.com, February 8th 2008
The magazine goes on sale on March 19th across Germany.
