New screenshot shows cop car interior

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:08 PM MDT | By Neil
A new GTA IV screenshot surfaced online today. The image shows Niko driving a police car with another in tow. Notably, it shows the increased detail that has been placed into the interiors of vehicles in the game, with the models of the car's seats being much more realistic thanks to a relatively high resolution texture.

Computerbild-Spiele preview with new screens

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 02:02 PM MDT | By Slim Trashman
Computerbild-Spiele, a German gaming magazine, in their latest issue contained a preview on GTA IV, and for the first time, a "hands on" preview, as opposed to viewing a demo. Below are some key points of the preview:
• The game is set in 2008.
• From what their experiences, Niko always wears a helmet while riding a motorcycle, influencing that this may be a mandatory thing.
• Now there are two buttons, as opposed to the previous one, to enter a car and drive away (one to enter/exit, one to start the engine).
• Niko may come across useful items in the cars he steals (weapons, money, etc).
• The wasted! system appears generally the same. Respawn at the hospital and loss of all your weapons.
• Bullet holes will remain visible and will not immediately disappear

The preview also contained 11 new screenshots and a nice new artwork of Niko involved in a police chase. Unfortunately, we only have scans at this time, but I'm sure it won't be long until digital versions are released.

For a full scan of 5 page preview and the rest of the new screenshots, check out the forum topic.

Patrick Brown's "GTA: Game Of Legends"

Grand Theft Auto IV - Community News | @ 09:34 PM MDT | By Slim Trashman
You guys may remember us posting about Patrick Brown, an amazingly talented artist well known for some creating unbelievably fantastic GTA fan artwork, some time ago. Well unable to contain his excitement for GTA IV's upcoming release, he has yet again shocked us with his new piece entitled "GTA: Game Of Legends" featuring all the lead characters from GTA's of the past (plus Niko) that we've all come to know and love.

Hats off to you, Patrick, for this one. Hopefully we'll be seeing more like this from him in the future!

Gaming website SPOnG recently raided the shelves of one of the UK's retailers and returned with the teaser packaging which Rockstar is currently using to promote Grand Theft Auto IV within stores.

The scanned images are made of previously released pieces of artwork. The site managed to grab images of both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the covers.

Take Two on brink of buyout?

GTAGaming.com - Rockstar/Take2 News | @ 06:52 AM MDT | By Neil
Current internet rumors are forecasting that Take Two, the publicly traded parent company of Rockstar Games, may succumb to a buyout offer from media giant Viacom.

Viacom is best known for its MTV, Nickelodeon and Paramount brands and is known to be actively seeking to expand within the video games industry. In 2005 it acquired and subsequently improved video website GameTrailers.com.

According to MCV, the company has received an offer from Viacom of $1.5 billion, a significant premium on its current value. The company's sale is entirely dependent on its shareholders, the pool of which is currently comprised of a very diverse group. MCV also claims that the biggest holders would be keen to sell if an attractive offer arose.

While this news is unlikely to impact Grand Theft Auto IV, any potential deal may see the series being more closely linked to Viacom's other brands through in game advertising and the series receiving a significant boost in media publicity time.

Early DMA Design pictures appear on Flickr

Top Down GTA - General News | @ 11:12 AM MDT | By Neil
Back in the 1990s Rockstar North didn't exist and Mortal Kombat was considered the prime example of video game violence. DMA Design was a small software company working in Dundee, Scotland and they hit the big time with the release of "Grand Theft Auto" on PC.

Times have definitely changed and thanks to the wonders of the internet, founding member Mike Dailly has shared a wealth of photographs of the team, its premises and its products with the world. In the many photo sets which he has uploaded, you'll be able to sample exactly what life in Scotland's fourth city is like, along with early images of Grand Theft Auto.

New information from Games Master

Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 05:20 PM MDT | By Neil
The latest magazine to publish a preview of Grand Theft Auto IV is Games Master, a member of the Future Publishing group which has already shared other previews through CVG and Games Radar. New information:
  • You can push pedestrians out of the way using the B button (X360). This may help to cut through heavy crowds.
  • Dialling 911 from your cell phone offers the ability to send a police car to your location.
  • Police are more intelligent and less trigger happy - they won't open fire unless you've committed a serious offence, although running from them will make them let rip instantly.
  • Cars no longer explode if they are flipped over.
  • Grenades can now be thrown from cars.
  • Combat is much improved and includes a block button.
  • Holding the right trigger and then pressing Y, X or B results in different melee attacks on enemies.
  • The cover system will be familiar to those who have played Gears of War - it allows movement between hidden areas with button presses as well as blind fire.
  • Niko's health is shown as a semi-circle around the radar, circle can get full form with wearing a bulletproof vest.
  • A form of body roll in cars has been implemented using the physics engine in the game, meaning that taking a tight corner will result in the car's chassis reacting realistically.
  • Streets names in the game are devised from various sources of inspiration, including celebrities. Expect to see Jim Jones Street and Hubbard Avenue among many others.
  • Characters' breath will be rendered when it is cold in Liberty City.
  • The Mafia, Jamaicans, Triads and Irish are some of the gangs in the game.
  • On some bridges you'll be required to pay tolls - just like in New York.
  • Spinners (wheels rims which rotate even when the car is stationery) have been implemented after countless PC mods and requests from the community.
  • Niko is tech savvy - he's got an E-Mail account which you can access by visiting any Tw@ internet café and he'll also take advantage of RSS feeds. Hey, we've even got one here on GTAGaming!
  • You can hear the stereos of other cars while in the city.
  • Radio news reports will reflect your progress in the game, often speaking of missions you've completed.
  • Running a pedestrian over will result in blood splattering over the bumper of the car and the windshield.

The magazine also claims that "both consoles will get additional downloadable content but the 360 GTA IV will have two exclusive missions". When editors saw the game, they were told that the PS3 version was around a week behind the Xbox 360 in terms of development progress.
