Grand Theft Auto IV - General News | @ 01:56 PM MDT | By Kodo
Thanks to Slim Trashman for reporting this IGN article concerning Sony's response to GTAIV not being exclusive to the PS3. Phil Harrison responds to questions about PS3 third-party exclusives and how GTAIV will be simultaneously released on the PS3 and Xbox 360. He is quoting saying,
"I don't think PS3 has the install base to support Rockstar's investment in GTA IV on its own"
When elaborated, it means that Rockstar would spend a lot of money and development time creating the first GTA game on these next-gen consoles, and would not sell enough copies on the PS3 alone. Harrison was not worried about losing the GTA exclusivity because he knows that in time, as more people buy PS3s, that Sony will be able to afford major third-party exclusive titles.

MARWacko Jacko Suing Take-Two
GTAGaming.com - General News | @ 01:53 PM MDT | By Kodo
The infamous Jack Thompson is going through with his threats when he will officially file lawsuit against Take-Two next week. Jack plans to stop the sale of future titles like Manhunt 2 and GTA IV to kids under 17.
The lawsuit comes off as premature and, to be blunt, silly. The ESRB has not yet rated either game, and although they may likely be rated "M For Mature", M-Rated games are typically only sold to ages 17+ or with parental consent anyway. Notwithstanding, the fact remains that nobody knows what GTA IV contains, so how could a lawsuit ban its content? Jack Thomspon even claims that Manhunt 2 is a "castration simulator." I am sure that anybody that knows what castration means does not require a simulator to perform it.
With the upcoming antipated Take-Two takeover of the board during the company's annual shareholder meeting on March 23, Thompson believes his lawsuit will be a threat to the "new" owners and that selling GTA IV and Manhunt 2 will be detrimental to their future sales. This is despite the fact that Take-Two shares have started going up, a sign that investors have an opposing view of Take-Two's future.
Read about Jack Thompson's history of inane censory campaigns, public reprimands, and disputes with the Florida Bar Association.

In case you haven't heard the news about the aforementioned anticipated takeover of the Take-Two board, we're here to fill you in. So, what does the future bring for Take-Two?
The investors that own about 46% of Take-Two's shares are planning to fill the board with new personnel at the board meeting on March 23, a week before the official release of the GTAIV trailer. They want to fire CEO Paul Eibeler and bring Strauss Zelnick of ZelnickMedia, former president of 20th Century Fox and BMG Entertainment, to replace him as a non-executive chairman of the new board. The motivation behind this is caused by the Hot Coffee scandal and backdated stock options involving former CEO Ryan Brant. Take-Two's stock suffered from the associated legal fees totaling more than $6 million.
In a press release today, Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. announced financial results for its first quarter ended January 31, 2007. The results show that net revenue is up and net loss is down as well as decreased operating expenses. The company is showing gains from the release of NBA® 2K7 and releases of GTA: LCS for PS2 and GTA: SA for the PS2 in Japan.
The importance of this news is that those close to and inside the company expect the shareholder change to happen successfully, and we must think of what that will mean for Take-Two's future and its developers. Some shareholders believe Take-Two will go on strong with new leadership, and others think Take-Two will be sold off. The idea of the acquistion of Take-Two comes from potential bidders such as UbiSoft, Activision, Bono's Elevation Partners, and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. One company not bidding is Microsoft, for the simple fact that acquiring a third-party publisher means a huge loss of revenue (the money from sales on all consoles would be lost due to being developed only for the Xbox 360). Whether the shareholder group sells the company or rebuilds it, we don't know yet. Investors seem to think the anticipated takeover is a good thing.
Strictly speaking, how will this takeover affect the GTA series, if at all? Do you think it will impact GTA IV, which is set to release a trailer at the end of this month? Voice your thoughts in this thread.

MARRockstar Teams with Timbaland
GTAGaming.com - Rockstar/Take2 News | @ 01:03 PM MDT | By Kodo
Do you remember Beaterator, the real-time music sequencer and sampler built for a web browser? Well now it's coming to the PSP with the help of with of Timbaland, who is a rapper, music producer, and long time Rockstar fan. Yes, Rockstar has teamed up with Timbaland to bring the music maker to Sony's PSP in summer 2007.
Timbaland said that he is very excited to work with Rockstar and make Beaterator music for the fans. Sam Houser also commented,
Music has always been a hugely important part of everything we do here. Two years ago, we launched a web-based version of Beaterator on our own website and people really embraced it. That inspired us to build and create something very interactive and unique. Having Timbaland involved in the game is a real honor and only adds to our excitement about the title.
From the PSP Beaterator website:
Built from the foundation of Rockstar's widely-acclaimed original web version of Beaterator, Beaterator for PSP system is both a powerful portable music mixer with robust beatmaking features, as well as a highly-addictive collection of rhythm games and challenge modes - all in the palm of your hand.
MARRumored Setting in NYC?
GTAGaming.com - General News | @ 01:17 PM MDT | By Kodo
ComputerAndVideoGames reported a RUMOR that GTAIV might be set in New York City. The rumor supposedly came from an "insider working on the soundtrack and was choosing NYC style songs". This might be coupled with the other report of an NYC band's music being used in GTAIV. However, it is important to note that the rumor came from a post on an unmentioned forum and now the post has been deleted. That basically means there is no evidence to support the rumor whatsoever, and not to mention the fact that anybody at all can start up a rumor. In addition, Liberty City was already based off of New York City. We know that rumors are part of the fun in hyping GTAIV, but we want you to know that the NYC setting is, in fact, just a rumor. It has not yet been confirmed nor denied by Rockstar.
