MAYGTA San Andreas PS2 Contest

As you might already know, Cyrix is hosting a contest in which the prize is a free copy of GTA: San Andreas for the PS2. He has been getting a lot of emails from people who are interested... but, there's just one small problem. Not many people have been giving him their edgeid's. Without them, Cyrix won't know who you are. So, if you have signed up for the contest but haven't given him your ID, be sure to email Cyrix again and tell him your ID at cyrix522@hotmail.com. YES that's right! Game Informer will yet again have the world exclusive on GTA: San Andreas!
Game Informer Magazine's June issue will feature the world-exclusive, first look cover story of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Game Informer Magazine will unveil the first look at one of the year’s most anticipated and closely guarded gaming titles today at the 2004 E3 Expo in Los Angeles. Advance copies of the magazine are available at Game Informer’s booth, located at the entrance to the West Hall.

While there won't be an ounce of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas leaked at E3 2004, the first place in the world that you'll be able to get details is in Game Informer Magazine...

...The June issue of Game Informer hits newsstands May 21. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is expected to land in stores in October 2004, launching exclusively on the PlayStation 2.

So there you have it, it's definetly confirmed. MAY 21st - only one and half more weeks before you get the info you've been waiting two years for! If someone from E3 gets one of those advance copies you'll know even sooner. One thing is for sure - the second we know about San Andreas it will be here to stay. We are going to cover it like you wouldn't believe.

So, we have pretty much what we all imagined since San Andreas was announced. It has the latino-gangster type setting that we concluded, and it looks modern too. The main character appears to not be white. And look! Bicycles! You know that was on wishlists, and that means Rockstar does read them!

MAYGTA San Andreas: Plot Summary

Rockstar have released a basic summary of the plot of GTA San Andreas, confirming that it'll be set in the early 1990's.
Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.


The summary appears to indicate that the game will not be set in a city named "San Andreas", instead Los Santos. It could possibly also be said that it'll take place in more than one city, from the last sentence of this short announcement by Rockstar.

Word from the Take2 Live Investor Luncheon. It's pretty self explanatory, but if you forward to about 39:50 you will hear this part:

Wednesday, May 12, 2004 - 12:00 PM PT

Investor: I have two questions. The first one is: Can you give us a little more clarity on the San Andreas? It looks like you're moving away from sort of the themes of the past with the one main character.

Take-Two: First question is we're just building on the Grand Theft Auto franchise. It's not moving away from anything, it's actually moving to the next level. Expanding the game, expanding the content, and really focusing that brand filled with demand that's out there. The appetite for that product is unsurpassed by any product in the industry, and our guys feel real confident - have spent appromixately two years now taking that product to the next level. I think everyone will be pleased. I just want everyone to focus back when Vice City came out. It surpassed everyone's expectations concerned with the product itself. I think we're expecting the same from San Andreas.

Kodo: I struggled for about 20 minutes playing the audio over and over, so if this quote isn't exactly what they said, I'm sorry. But I think it's 95% right.

He is basically implying that the ways of one main character are no more. He could be saying there are multiple characters to play as in the storyline, or different characters you can choose from the start. Discuss in the comments!

Update: Thanks to an anonymous commentor that pointed out that we have misread this quote. The investor was not asking for a number of characters, and that explains why the Take-Two response did not give him a number. The investor used misleading wording, so what he said:
It looks like you're moving away from sort of the themes of the past with the one main character.

Should have been formed like:
From the looks of that main character, it looks like you're moving away from the themes of the past (mafia) [and extending into new themes (thug)].

If you now read over the quote in this context, both the question and the answer now make more sense. The commentor put it best - Take-Two was saying they are taking it to the next level, they are expanding the franchise so there are different games. We had a mafia style and now we have a thug style.

Sorry about this goof up. It was a misread brought on by bad wording, but if you read it in this new context you'll see it is right. So just erase the multiple characters thing from your head and try to stomp this rumor before it gets out of hand. It didn't make sense for Take-Two to just give away a major gameplay feature in the middle of an investor meeting anyway. And lastly, in the plot summary it only talks about Carl Johnson, so we can assume he is the only character.

They will have official info and loads of brand new screenshots not seen anywhere else. Make sure you buy issue #48 of Official PlayStation 2 Magazine.
