That first one looks like it's from a videogame with really good graphics, looks pretty nice (they all do)

Oh man I can't wait to see what Sony Santa Monica, Guerrilla, Naughty Dog and Polyphony can come up with. The first party studios have been on a roll for the past three years or four years.

@Jap: lol, I'm still waiting for Chad Warden's triumphant return.

Holy shit, I thought the first image was rendered, and the second one a real promo image. Now I see it's all rendered, fucking outstanding.

In some ways, yes, and in other ways no. Other than the ridiculous Killzone and Madden videos, games look significantly better now than they did near launch.

Remember when this was really impressive?

Some recent developments leading up to the 20th..

We now know the venue for this event. It's the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC:

Sony isn't messing around. This thing holds between 2,200 and 2,800 people.

The (ugly as sin) PS4 devkit and prototype controller for anyone who missed it:

Quote:
From VGLEAKS:

ORBIS Controller Features:

- Digital Buttons:
  • Directional buttons
  • Triangle, Circle, Cross and Square
  • L1, L2 and L3
  • R1, R2 and R3
  • OPTIONS
  • SHARE (reserved for the system and cannot be accesed by the application)
  • Touchpad clicks
  • PS (reserved for the system and cannot be accesed by the application)

Analog Buttons:
  • L2
  • R2

- Sticks:
  • Left
  • Right

- Touchpad:
  • Two-point multi-touch (with mechanical click)
  • ORBIS Controller has an electrical capacitance touchpad where the position at wich the user’s finger is touching the pad can be detected. At most, two points can be detected at the same time.

- Motion sensors:
  • 3-axes gyro sensor
  • 3-axes velocity sensor

- Vibration feature:
  • Large motor
  • small motor

- Light bar:
  • RGB LED (reserved for the system and cannot be accesed by the application)

No info on mic or jack

Same style dpad as the Vita which is awesome. It's regarded as one of the best dpads ever.

Also, shots fired lol:

You can also see a headphone jack on the controller to as well as a small speaker. Also I don't really think it's ugly, the main complaint people bitched to Sony about the dualShock 3 was how small it was, how light it was and how the sticks wern't concave, this looks like it solves all of those issues whilst remaining true to the original design, after all, just how can you beef up the DualShock size and weight without directly ripping off the Xbox 360 controller shell (like Nintendo did).

True. It's just not very aesthetically pleasing at the moment. I'm sure the final controller will look a little different.

I don't really care that much. It's about function, not looks. The DS3 was already really good imo with the exception of L2 and R2. If they fix those it will be fantastic.

Surely i can't be the only one who thinks light and small are beneficial features It's not like a phone screen where you can see more and do more with more space, it has the exact same functionality but less clutter.

Not everyone has fragile babby hands. Some of us want a little meat on our controllers bones.

It still looks smaller than the 360 controller, which is nowhere near unacceptable in size either. It's probably going to be much heavier than the DS3, but I don't see why it would be too heavy.
At least it doesn't have a screen.
