It wasn't going to happen anyway, Rockstar said the Episodes style DLC just never made the money back until EFLC as a Disc, so they want to focus on smaller DLC instead.

If you look at L.A.Noire and Max Payne 3 you get a bigger idea of what it MIGHT be, which I don't really like, just hope we at least get something along the lines of Undead Nightmare, and I don't mean Zombies but that DLC is I think what Rockstar would say is their limit now.

OK,I see what you're saying. It will be interesting to see what they do then. If the game is as large and immersive as they say, and it is a more direct return to the series' roots then DLC might not be needed at all. I mean, III didn't have all the bells and whistles but I played the hell out of that game and it was tiny compared to what we're dealing with this upcoming release.

I don't mind if they make the DLC's smaller than IV's Episodes as long as they offer single-player content as well multi-player content. I only ever buy single-player DLC. Undead Nightmare and the new cases for L.A. Noire, never purchased RDR or MP3 multiplayer packs.

I wonder if there is some interesting way they could implement DLC into the three-protagonist system. Take-2 CEO Straus Zelnick mentioned that they have something interesting planned but wouldn't go into further detail.

They could probably add new unique side activities for each character?

That would be nice. Trevor repoing cars, Michael putting hits on his wife, and Franklin doing dog fights.

I was thinking more like, assuming they aren't in the final game:

Michael - theft activities, ranging from robbing small time stores to houses.
Franklin - grand theft auto activities, extending his job as a repoman.
Trevor - rampages in the oldschool GTA vein, drug wars in the Chinatown Wars vein.

I really want drug dealing back. It is easily the best GTA side mission of all time.

Hopefully they've made the game modular enough to add new protagonists as DLC (along with a few missions each, and possibly a new hobby/ability). That would open up a lot of options.

If the game is as big as stated, there could be a near endless list of activities. I juust want to see a video of actual gameplay!

This, there is no easy fix for a issue like this on a open world game like GTAV. Unless they do some massive wizardry with textures (similar to megatextures, god help our immortal souls), dumbing down the audio quality or using some kind of compression for both.

If they can manage to compress the data to fit on a dual layer DVD, I'd like to see some academic papers on the technique because it would be god damn impressive. Textures that might repeat can be easily done, but audio is really, really difficult. You can barely compress lossy audio above a certain threshold.

But can you really have the game decompress data on the fly while you need that processing power to run the game engine/world/physics/ etc? Something is going to suffer horrendously without a install at least.

Surely there is no way they will get this all on one disk and run smoothly on the Xbox 360, maybe they'll make it so upgraded textures and the radio stations are only available with an install from a second disk or something, like installing extra cars in forza, and perhaps if that's still not enough room, then also make you switch to another disk halfway through the story.

There is no way they have improved and expanded upon this game over IV and still managed to squeeze it on one disk when that was already at the limit. As Xan said, even with improved compression, the amount of decompression that it would require on the fly would be ridiculous.

What about Halo 4 then?

the system requirements say you need a usb device or HDD of atleast 8GB to install the multiplayer content. You can not play multiplayer if you do not install those 8gb's.

So why wouldn't they be able to require a mandatory installation of content for Gta V aswell

Mandatory implies necessity. Are you saying you can't play Halo 4 if you don't install the multiplayer component of the game?

Microsoft changed their policy.

Yes you cannot play multi without 8GB install.
