after about 10 minutes of wows and yays and loads of expletives the game has crashed and now he can only play for a couple of mins before it crashes
all other games are fine and the disc is brand new with no marks on it
could this be anything to do with him not having a hard drive on xbox

would appreciate any help

best bet would be to go to your local games store and see if you can replace the game for a new one i think u might have a faulty disc. and also i would advise investing in a harddrive because you can install the whole game to the harddrive so that if for any reason the disc gets scratched or whatever it doesnt matter because it only needs the disc then for confirmation rather than game information, as it would be reading the harddrive for that.

hope you get it sorted out.

Peace

There may be two possible issues. First, like what the poster above said, it could be a problem with the disc. You could try installing to a HDD if you had one, to verify if it's the disc error. However, since you do not have a HDD, you should take the disc back to the store.

Second, it may be an imminent RROD/E-74 error. Be careful. Episodes from Liberty City may be more graphics-intensive and that may be why your Xbox 360 only crashes on it, and not other games. This may hint towards E-74 which affects the GPU chip. Crashes are irregular and aren't supposed to happen. With my personal experience, when I encountered an E-74 error, my games played fine, but crashed often. I didn't think much of it, until once when Halo Wars crashed. Even then, I was able to play Halo 3 still until I switched it off and it no longer turned on.

Moral of the story is, try to troubleshoot and find the problem. It may be the disc drive laser problem, the disc problem, or the Xbox 360. These symptoms, should it be resilient, you should probably call Xbox support. E-74 errors are also often coupled with graphics imperfections such as fuzzy lines and video irregularities that may appear during gameplay.

You could always try doing some detective work on who may have stolen it within 2 months time. How many different friends have been over, how often they have been over, if they were carrying backpacks, etc.

Find excuses to go with your son over his friends' houses and snoop around.

I don't know where to get a HDD for cheap, unfortunately. :( Best of luck to you!
