In which case Steam would continue to update the files, seeing as the game data would be corrupted or outdated from the latest version.

If you want a piece of mind, stick with a solid copy DVD version.

Hi All
I no this is my first post i been running around this place for ages though

Just a thing with this it looks like an awesome mod.

I have installed it and all the requirements but when i get in game and press F9 Nothing happens.
I have checked the Scripthook.log and there is nothing in there about this mod (only simple trainer)
Now i am using 1.0.6 and i haven't been able to find anywhere if this is compatible with 0.6 but was hoping something could maybe confirm or point me in the right direction

Sorry if i missed anything

I am setting up the game as per the perameters mentioned on the other forum... thanx for the input and i'll be back with the logs. Here is the original post as deleted from the other forum:

okay, this is what i got. i reinstalled fresh and double checked my .NET 4.0. It was corrupted. I ran a repair and fixed it but it did not correct the issue, AW would not activate. I ran the Simple Native Trainer 6.0 and it worked fine so the ASI loader is working. I used the xlive_d file of Xliveless for debugging and it shows the loader calling the trainer and the scripthookdotnet: This is what it recorded:

There is a line that says "01/08/2010 03:23:22.488 Error loading library 126" Immediately before it loads the ASI files. Does that have anything to do with the problem perhaps?

Ok excellent thanks for moving it to here. Once you post up all the logs for the latest results as discussed in the comments we'll see if we can figure out why it's not working. Very strange but we'll see if can get to the bottom of it!

Edit:
The MaxHealth doesn't work, however the invulerability DOES work making Niko impervious to any supported damage types so there will be a new invulnerability flag along with the other stuff in the next release. I just need to code up the properties for it.

Is the ScriptHookDotNet not seeing AW? Or could it possibly be the error loading library 126? The tilde doesn't bring up the console either.

No the library error appears to be happening regardless of outcome and it's also before it successfully loads up the ScriptHook/DotNet ASI too, which it appears to succesfully load after anyway.

Also, the trainer is listed as an ASI. This means XLiveLess is loading the trainer and not scripthook, because scripthook only loads script components from the scripts folder. It is itself an ASI file that requires being loaded (by xliveless or other).

So what this appears to show is it ScriptHook (the core C++ file) is being correctly loaded but what is NOT being loaded, if you do not have a ScriptHookDotNet.log file is ScriptHookDotNet

So in this case it is not AmbientWars failing to activate. It is ScriptHookDotNet failing to initialize and if that fals, as it appears in this cae, then AmbientWars nor any other script based mod would not be loaded either.

So if it's true that you do not have ScriptHookDotNet log files being created then what I just said is true and we at-lest have a place to start. So why is ScriptHookDotNet failing to initialize.

ScriptHook (C++) doesn't use the .NET framework. ScriptHookDotNet does. My 1st guess in that case is something is wrong with your .NET 4.0 installation maybe.

I will do a couple quick tests to see default logs and report back.

Ok got some results that I think point more toward a .NET 4.0 failure.

With nothing in the scripts folder you should still have a ScriptHookDotNet.log file containing roughly the following:

It always fails with the phone thing but that is a SHDN issue but that doesn't prevent it from loading. It just ignores it and still processes the scripts folder.

When any scripts exist in the scripts folder it will list them as being found and loaded.

So, what in the hell is up with your .NET 4.0 installation

I wonder if other people are also seeing this problem and thinking it is somehow AmbientWars faling and thinking it's a shitty mod lol.... that would be SAD! It's not Ambient Wars failing.

Also I don't know what that xliveless library error 126 is because I don't see that. So I'm wondering if that is even more evidence of a .NET 4.0 issue because when it tries to load ScriptHookDotNet if there is a .NET 4.0 problem it would fail to initialize the dll correctly. Even though the error tiself is listed before the entry, look at the millisecond times. It's within the same millisecond that it shows the error and also that it loaded the library. My hunch is it did a LoadLibrary call, it failed, but it still showed the message that it loaded it, so in the XLiveLess call it is not accounting for the fact the library failed to load and just prints that Loaded message regardless simply because it made the call to load it, and not that it may have had trouble loading it.

The 1st thing we need to do here is see if you can correctly run a .NET 4.0 application (EXE) as well as load a .NET 4.0 library.

I can create an EXE and a DLL for this purpose and provide it in the mods download as a .NET 4.0 confirmation test so we can at-least get past that point or confirm it doesn't work.

Give me a couple minutes and I will create a simple EXE and DLL that has a form with a button that loads the DLL and calls a function. This should (I believe) test the .NET 4.0 installation in this case, at-least minimally.

I'm uploading a confirmation test for .NET 4.0 right now. I'll update with link when done.

Check top of this message for the test exe and dll for .net 4.0 confirmation.

Ok interesting. That at-least confirms a basic 4.0 exe and dll do indeed work there so the framework is working to some extent, either in part or whole.

There are 2 versions of the 4.0 framework I believe. A client profile and a full installation. As I recall the one from the link off hazards site is the full. And it is the full, not client profile, framework that AmbientWars is compiled against. And so is the confirmation prorject you just successfully executed.

Soooo... hmm wtf.

By the way I saw your note about car spawn.

I just finished doing some testing. I created a spawnable car list file with some sample names and threw together some code where you can press F10 and get a window in the game with a list of cars from that file. You click an entry and boom, the car is popped into the world ready to rock n roll. I'll refine it a bit and then include car spawning in the next release.

okay, dumb me checked and there is supposed to be the full and client files. no info on two v4 and a v4.0 separate folders found. Uninstalling .Net 4.0 now.

reinstalled, same issue! registry looks the same, program shows .net 4.0 working. I still have nothing when i hit the tilde or f9 and no file except for the xliveless which spews the same info. The game does take a SIGNICANT impact on performance when i put xliveless in though. I am running intel dual e2220's at 2.4 ghz and nothing hits it like xliveless under the 1.0.7.0 patch. I wonder... could you give me the link to where you got your 1.0.7.0 patch Ironhide?

Damn it. Well that is definitely a ScriptHookDotNet failure since the Tilde isn't working and you have no ScriptHookDotNet.log file.

At this point I'd say you have a fully functioning .NET 4.0 installation that you don't need to touch again. It's working.

The issue is trying to figure out why ScriptHookDotNet doesn't work. I'm not the author of that so I don't have the source code to it. I could probably decompile the thing but that debugging of that should be provided by Hazard and I don't know if he provides that or not.

I'll take a look at his readme and web link and see if there's anything we could use to get debug info from it.

Also I'm not sure what OS you're running, nor where the game is actually installed. What happens if you run the game As Administrator? If it's Vista or 7, the program files folder is considered a protected folder and does require permissions for certain actions so ti's at-least worth trying to load it as admin and see if ScriptHookDotNet finally loads or not.
