So How Do You Actually Pronounce Packie?
because "Paki" is a racial slur to people who are southern asian. And i could picture some awkward moments when talking about the storyline to people.

The term that is non-racist now is Pakistani.
So should Brits be racist, too? I hate our government.

It's just the guys name.
Although you are right, it isn't intended to be Racist. I'm assuming Packie in this sense is short for Patrick, although you'd think they'd just call him Paddy.

The 'a' in the beginning of sounds different for both, right? (I forgot the exact phonetic terms for them) I also believe it isn't intended to be something racist.
Huge thanks to K-evin for this signature.
Oh please, no.

It's only racist to a person who may take offense to the slang word. I could see some controversy if they used the term "Paki".. but they aren't.
-In Ireland, the term 'Packie' is given as a slang to anyone named Patrick.
Also, here are some other definitions:
-New England term for liquor store.
-Term commonly used in Massachusetts and parts of RI and NH where massholes have settled.
-Person who makes a run to get alcohol for people who are generally underage.
A little off topic, but this reminds me of the term "Jap" used in a lot of games and other media to distinguish Japanese settings. This term for me has always been controversial although it is simply a shorthand way of writing Japanese. Personally, I feel that ANY racial slur is only offensive to those who are affected by simple words and care too much about what other people say and think. I'm white, if someone calls me a "Cracker" I just conjure up in my head an image of a saltine with my face in it and it just makes me laugh.
