An idea of scale.

Using a map of Liberty City, and the newest screens posted by Asif, we can get a true sense of scale for Liberty City! I apologize for the page stretch.

Here we can see Niko gazing out at what I can manage to identify as Broker and Dukes. Off in the distance we can see the Observation Towers from the 1964 World's Fair. The overall shape of the island is evidence too, in addition I see no Ferris Wheel of any kind to indicate that this is Bohan, the bridge visible has a steel tower, opposed to the stone Algonquin Bridge, which is more to the south, and off to the left-most view from the helicopter we can see the supports of another bridge. Lastly the tall building is a recreation of the Citicorp Building, the tallest in Queens (the real life counterpart of Dukes). We can see how vast this one part of Liberty appears to be, with many streets and objects to give you a sense of how small Niko is in this big new world.

I estimated Niko's position over Algonquin, and his relative field of view. I feel that this gives us a proper sense of scale to Grand Theft Auto IV in terms of the physical size of Liberty City.

So it'll be a little bigger as to what the PS2 Liberty City was.

Nice work man, the island under the midst of Algonquin bridge should be the Roosevelt island (some recent magazines have been referring it as Colony Island), this one is yet to appear on the official map.

This looks to be a lot bigger than that, in my opinion.

Including? Or not including the quarter of the map that was dead space?

You may be underestimating the size of the original Liberty City. Staunton Island was huge.

Rockstar mentioned something about the map being slightly smaller than San Andreas, with little to no dead space. Dukes alone appears as large or larger than Staunton from III.

Staunton Island was long and that gave it a certain feeling of being big, since you could drive on it's longitude for a long time, imo

Pretty good find.

Stauton Island was big, but it wasn't exactly full. It didn't have many roads and you could circle it quite quickly.

That looks quite huge.

I honestly would've been satisfied if Niko was looking at the entire city in that screen. But he's only looking at a small portion of it.

Even Rockstar says it's about the size of the whole map of San Andreas, so I'll take their word over yours, Zidane

The new LC has far much more density than the old LC. I don't want to insult the old LC, but the new LC does seem that much "bigger."
