GTA IV Expected to Make $400M in First Week

Trumping Halo 3's launch by a landslide.

Quote:
Variety has been told by "sources close to publisher Take-Two Interactive" that Grand Theft Auto IV is expected to earn $400 million in its first week on sale, handily trumping Master Chief's $300 million space hoop slam dunk. Reportedly based on retailer orders, the prediction sees six million gamers purchasing Rockstar's latest during the week of April 29 and contributing to "possibly the biggest debut ever for an entertainment product." Unsurprisingly, this matches the positive outlook shared by several analysts, with Michael Pachter predicting 9 million sales by Halloween. Our recent (thoroughly unscientific) poll found that more gamers were leaning towards the Xbox 360 version.
Thanks to Joystiq for the wonderful news

Wow. Halo 3 had a week no game had ever seen before, dubbed "the greatest launch in entertainment history" it was supposed to an untouchable feat. Now it's been rumored for some time that GTA IV could possibly challenge that, but people scoffed at that and said it couldn't be done. Now GTA IV has a chance to take the sales crown right from the get-go. This is great news, hopefully T2 and Rockstar get all the money they need to keep EA at bay.

Just read this on Gamespot. Awesome, awesome news and I think it will change the minds of executives, shareholders and investors alike within T2. We need T2 to stay put, EA's agenda must not be fulfilled.

I wouldn't be surprised if this happened, if it does then I hope it keeps T2 from agreeing to EA's buy out.
