I appreciate your opinion, and I agree that AVP was entertaining... Sorta. But I just finished watching The Thing (original), and watched through clips of Alien on youtube, and I have to say they're far better at conveying the tension and eery atmosphere than any film nowadays. The last few horros I've went to see I literally laughed my ass off at how terrible they were. There was only Insidious that did a decent job in my opinion.
Yeah true, 9/10 horrormovies nowadays are not even worth watching. The older ones are indeed more scary but they have (for my taste) too much horror and to little character development etc etc. It's more like a profesisional atmosphere almost between the characters, no warmth at all. I want to atleast care a little bit if someone's girlfriend is being ripped to pieces other than the mere sight of it. Although modern ones have the tendency to let their main characters live. I like unexpected movies, movies that show from the start that anything can happen. Severance was for example quite entertaining (and horrific).
One movie you should definitely watch (if you haven't already) is Tucker and Dale vs Evil .. I won't tell you anything about it because I don't want to spoil it for you. It's just something definitely worth watching and quite unordinary.
