See, this is why GTA isn't for simpleton's.
GTAIII's story isn't about the main character, it's about the people you work for: the scum of society. It's about the world we live in. It's about the people that are effected by the scum you work for, either through the media they control (Donald Love), or the gang relationships that are effected (Killing Kenji and starting a gang war, while acting like nothing happened to Asuka). It's about the commercialism that plague's the airwaves,"Why buy a small car? Are you a small person?" It's about the hyperbolic amount of violence and overly violent stance that GTA percieves modern America as. Ammunation in every single game is a byproduct of this. "The store that helped defeat communism!" THAT is a Grand Theft Auto story. It's a hyper real representation of our world and the things that taint it.
The main character of GTA games is the AREA IT TAKES PLACE IN, not the character you control. The reason for this is because the things you do these acts are byproducts of the city's turmoil and maladjustment.
Furthermore, the thing about your main character in III is what further drives the story into amazing detail. You're a henchman that does things for other people, yes, but through your violent behavior you form an anti-hero state. Depsite doing these violent acts, YOU'RE the person who's cleaning up the vermin off these streets. This city is one violent cesspool where everything bad goes on and NO ONE (even the police) does a thing about it. Through violent acts and working as an underling for the scum of societ YOU are the person saving the city from itself by using the same thing that it "glorifies" (if it even does that): VIOLENCE.
Suck it up. You aren't smart enough for GTA. You lack the imagination to pull together the pieces.
A *story* does not have to be told through cutscene, and GTAIII is my favorite GTA BECAUSE of this. Theme can tell a story. Watch 2001: A Space Odyssey, gorgio.
