Take2 Takeover: Future of GTAIV
Summarized from the GTAGaming news post:

The investors that own about 46% of Take-Two's shares are planning to fill the board with new personnel at the board meeting on March 23, a week before the official release of the GTAIV trailer....
...Some shareholders believe Take-Two will go on strong with new leadership, and others think Take-Two will be sold off...Whether the shareholder group sells the company or rebuilds it, we don't know yet. Investors seem to think the anticipated takeover is a good thing...
After reading about the upcoming takeover of the Take2 board, how do you think this will impact GTAIV, if at all?

Ash_735 03-12-2007 03:43 PM

It shouldn't have any affect on current projects, any changes made will take effect from future projects, meaning it won't affect GTAIV but may affect the next GTA game after it.

Gamaya 03-12-2007 03:51 PM

Shouldn't make too big an impact, any company will realise that messing with a GTA game will damage its revenue.

Asif 03-12-2007 04:10 PM

I sincerely hope, they wouldn't make any neg-effect on the PC porting project.
Edit: Read similar article on PlanetGTA yesterday or the day before yesterday.
According to that, the decision of whether to overtake or not must be finalized before 28th March, the day before the trailer launch.

My biggest concern about the whole thing is Take Two going soft on the legal community just cause this new guy doesn't wanna mess with all the legal trouble our beloved GTA series tends to cause.

I've heard about a ex sony executive takein over, I also been seein alot of talk from sony executive sayin they don't have that many units shipped yet to have gta exclusive to sony just yet but sony says in two years they will have enough units to keep GTA with sony and only sony from then on.

Slim Trashman 03-12-2007 06:51 PM

GTA IV won't be affected at all in any way I believe.

Xeroer 03-12-2007 08:27 PM

GTA IV is roughly 50% - 75% complete.
This means that everything major going in, is in.

There is really nothing the new board could do, even if they wanted to.

Slim Trashman 03-12-2007 08:32 PM

You just assuming Xeroer, or did you get the job and R* told you? :P

Jimmy_86 03-12-2007 09:38 PM

I doubt they'd mess with Rockstar too much as it's seems to be doing well for them. I do hope this doesn't get in the way of Rockstar making good games.

X-reS 03-12-2007 10:04 PM

I don't think they will change anything drastic ,but maybe some censorship issues.

Do you want to elaborate on how you know this?

If you're just speaking in terms of development cycles, then yes I can understand, but also understand what developers call "crunch time" when they cram things in and change things last minute. So going by t(release)-t(today)= t(x) where x is only a baseline.

Xeroer 03-12-2007 11:34 PM

In terms of development cycle, yes.

There is nothing really they can change around at "crunch-time".
That specific period is for changing things around and adding last-minute things. However, any decisions to cut things, or change something dramatically is not feasible.

The circumstances aren't ideal for changes.
Take Two is the publisher, but it doesn't hold 100% authority over the project. There is nothing the the new perseonnel can do.

And don't forget - talks of changing things usually take a while, then they must work their way down the grapeline.
After that, Rockstar North may refuse it on the reasonable grounds. By time things go back and forth, GTA V will be here.

the punisher 03-13-2007 07:09 AM

Hope they don't change anything. So Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo and EA aren't bidding?

Scott 03-13-2007 07:33 AM

Apparently Sony are bidding.

But liek in the UK when the Safeway chain of supermarkets was being bought out, there was a ban on the Wal-Mart corp bidding, because they already owned another chain called ASDA. The same type of thing could happen here, with EA's exception.

As Sony have SCE and SCEE, M$ have Microsoft Game Development Studios and Nintendo are Nintendo, they'll probably be banned from bidding as they already own studios, and make the consoles the games are released for, giving them an unfair bias towards releases.

As for EA, I don't think they'd want Take2. As Take2 publish GTA, Manhunt, Max Payne etc, there's too much legal trouble there. Paying a lot of money just to get sued when GTAIV comes out because someones pyschopathic kid shot people is too much hassle. EA want money, that's why they release 50 games a day.

I just really hope that whoever does take them over realises GTAs market, and doesn't do anything drastic. R* are their own company, but Take2 have a hell of an influence.
