Newbie needs a little help..

I just got GTA IV and I'm a big newbie! I want to play it but only because of the mods. I wish to play the "police" version of the game. I installed the mod LCPDFR but unsure how to play it. I hit Alt P and nothing happened. I totally new to installing Mods on GTA. I'm very familiar with the mod workings on a different game such as Emergency Response and I've created mods for it. But would need to learn the whole mod thing with GTA.

Help needed...

You should start by updating your game to the latest patch (if you haven't already)

I'm not familiar with LCPDFR, never used it myself atleast. Is it an installer or is it a collection of files (.ini's .asi's etc)?

I believe it's an installer. It was named or described as "auto installer". I was just interested in a mod that installs everything it needs to run the mod itself. When I play Emergency 4, all you need to do is install the a popular mod known as the LA Mod and then you can play that as installed - no additional files needed..

Gta IV doesn't have alot of mods with installers, but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy. Installing custom skins, guns etc all goes through a program called SparkIV (or OpenIV is an alternative program). But the only problem is that you're replacing files instead of adding them (with script mods being the exception). So I'd advice you to start making a backup folder before doing any modding.
