Some mods don't work even though I patched
 
Hello, strangely when I edit some files like water.dat by removing or adding lines to it the game crashes. If I add cars to the game, the game doesn't recognize them. However, all script mods do work. I patched my game a long time ago so I don't remember which method but most patchers tell me my game is already patched. What could be the problem?

You have to be careful when editing those .dat files, if you mess up a single dot, number or whatever your game will crash.

Make sure after editing those files that they're still .dat files (and not .txt files)

I recommend using simple native trainer to check if those cars work

Or did you mean you can't install them at all? Are you using sparkIV/OpenIV to place them into the vehicles.img? Alot of modders give their vehicle files a custom name, if you import those in SparkIV it won't recognize them indeed, you first need to name them (give them the same name as the vehicle you want to replace).

In OpenIV you can simply right-click the vehicle you want to replace with it, hit 'replace' and select the custom car file

Well I can create the custom img file with the custom car in it, I edit all the files the tutorial suggests except for the ped one. But I can't spawn it in the game.

Could also be caused by the mod you've downloaded. Though I doubt someone would upload a mod that isn't 100% working. So yet I think it would be your editing yes.

Okay well do you mind if I post here exactly what files I edited and how I edited them and you can tell me what I did wrong? This is bothering me so much.

Yes and I defined it in the ini config file.

Okay so here is what I did. I downloaded a camaro car. I created an img archive using OpenIV. I placed camaro.wtd and camaro.wft inside the img. I saved the image to pc/models/cdimages as newveh.img. Can't spot any errors, is it lines up correctly with the other vehicles? in the .dat files I mean

You can always just replace a car , if it's not working every time

I did at one point have it completely lined up with the other car dats but a add not replace tutorial suggested otehrwise. Okay I will try to replace the infernus just to see if that works.

Also, I was curious, why do we have to add all these img files and stuff? Couldn't we just add to the files already read by the game? Also, is there a script I need to install (similar to SA) that allows the game to read other .img files? Even though I defined them is the game set not to read them?

Just wanted to update you and let you know that the car when replaced does work. Instead of me trying to add another image. Maybe I could just put the vehicle in the vehicles.img?
