Pretty common for them to do this years early before they even make the game, if they do, to prevent people from taking the domain and squatting on it.

Doesn't mean a GTA5 is close by.

Doesn't mean it's close by? I sure hope it is. GTA:IV was released in Apr 2008. If it takes another 2 years to be released, I'll be a bit disappointed.

Well 2002 was when VC was released and that was a game we could play on pretty much any of the big platforms, then San Andreas in 2004... after that, it was only Liberty City stories etc that were PS2/PSP only games... 4 years later, we got GTA4.

Like I said, a registered domain name is no indication the game is close by. Could still be a while away!

And by the way, you can see by that WHOIS query that the domain was registered in 2007, BEFORE GTA4 was released. Like I said, its done so it can't be taken by some cyber squatter who wants web traffic.

This probably won't be the next GTA, but one much further down the line. Like maybe the next gen GTA.

I expect the next GTA won't be announced until after the release of Agent, which won't be released until at least this time next year.

Chances are they're already working on it, but they aren't going to crowd Rockstar North with that much publicity while they're working on two entirely seperate games... Who knows, the next GTA may never happen.

I doubt that very much but then again I would not rule it out. I mean the chances R* would drop GTA and never make another one is slim, especially after the success of IV.

That was more a joke than anything else.

They learned their lesson after they didn't buy gta3.com on time. It's just a safety thing - secure the domain sooner than later so that somebody else doesn't snatch it up then offer it for millions of dollars instead of $10/year.

I find it hard to believe that the next GTA will be called Grand Theft Auto 5.
I also think that GTA 4: Vice City (or San Andreas) is a bit too much.

I'm not sure if they would want to drop the GTA name but I could see it just being called (for example) "Vice City".

Sipher 06-12-2010 11:44 AM

I havent had my say in this at all >.< haha.

I posted the whois not because I think R*'s next gta is gta5, I posted to see what your thoughts were, but none of you actually thought of the fact that, gta 5 IS coming, when, we dont know. The domain is never solid evidence of a new game that might come out, for all we know, it could be canceled, renamed, changed, modified, but the thought of canceling a sequal of past succesful titles, is challenging to my knowledge :D.

It is way to early for a gta 5, keep in mind every time a new number is added in the gta sequals, there is always something new, and most of the times it was a new game engines. From my understanding, GTA 5 will have to have what other games did not, and improve on that. Using the same engine, or slightly modifying the engine ad releasing a game called gta 5, is not R* we know.

The domain registered is to keep safe of the name, if it happens, they have the name, if it does not... well it will seem stupid not to make a gta 5 :P

Here is my question to you guys, can you trace what domain names take2games owns? :D

Wow. GTA5.com was my favorite website back in the day when it was a GTA forum, I'm pretty sure we have members here originally from GTA5.com. It was even way before San Andreas came out!

I still think the next GTA should be IV: Vice City, rather than V.

I'd rather have it be GTA:V-ice City, or something along those lines. Working the roman numeral along with the game title itself. Or like Grand Theft Auto V: Back to Vice City

Misanthrope 06-13-2010 10:27 PM

How about GTA V: London or Kuala Lumpur or São Paulo. I'm still not convinced that it HAS to be in the Ole US.
