GTAIV PC running soo sloow
i have a HP pavillion a6300f which has an intel pentium dual core e2180 processor. i have 2gb ram and a GTX260 graphics card [which is beastly]

Yet GTAIV runs like dog shit. i bought the game on steam

yes i have the 1040 patch.
yes i updated the drivers.

low settings = low frame rate
high settings = low frame rate
everything i do = low frame rate

what do i effin do people? i've been going at it for 8 hours today... [literally 8]

do i really need a quad core cpu. really? really? jesus christ rockstar, not everyone is loaded...

i get an error when launching the game. it's:

SecuLauncher: failed to start application. [2000]

yes i went into the local files and verified the integrity of game cache
yes i went into the local files and defragmented cache files

awesome let me go google that now...

You should have a quad core chip anyway since you own a GTX 260 because that E2180 would bottleneck you in any game not just GTA4. To give you an idea I'm on a GTX 260 as well but using a Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core and can run GTA4 at 30 - 50fps at 1600x1200, with everything at max. So you are definately CPU limited.

ok so what kind of cpu can i get. all i know i that my motherboard is a microATX

download CPU-Z, unzip the files to a folder, run it, and click on the mainboard tab, tell me what it says for Manufacturer and Model

[a shitty] FOXCONN Napa

where r u looking so i can look to

is a clear sign the game gta4 bottlenecks when the cpu usage is 99% and graphicscard is like 43%.... it is.... :(

it look's like this is your system here, thats all I can find with that info you gave.

The Wolfdale E8xx series is the best you can get, so I suggest you get a E8600, its not a quad core but that appears to be your best choice.

here: ...

thats my cpu

that's yours

Your board needs a Socket 775. You can't use the i7 because its Socket 1366.

by the way you posted the i7 link twice :P

kyle_e.a. 09-05-2009 01:31 AM

so the i7 you have would work?

from newegg about the e8500: [from a poster]

Pros: Absolutely amazing chip. This thing will not only run or OC well, but OC's 4.2 Ghz on AIR. Speed and rates as well as load times etc etc etc are painlessly fast and efficient. Recently just built a Quad-Core Q6600 and this just embarassed it. Bravo Intel, bravo.
Cons: OCing with an MSI P7N Diamond 780i is a bit annoying, but definately doable and stable.
Other Thoughts: If you're a gamer/enthusiast of OCing your chip, dont even hesitate to buy this proc.

do I recommend you get the E8600? well yea cause thats your best choice for your board. If you want an i7 you will need a new Motherboard and Ram which will = more $$$$

edit: you changed your post as I replied lol, No the i7 won't work on your board.

kyle_e.a. 09-05-2009 01:41 AM

ok lol. do you think the e8500 and e8600 will allow gta to run super silky smooth on high settings. i heard gta4 needs your pc to have at least 3 cores? true?

I dunno cause I never had a Core 2 Duo lol. At the settings I run the CPU usage is about 42 - 47% on my Core i7

I upgraded from a AMD X2 4200+ which also ran at 99% just like your E2180 did

kyle_e.a. 09-05-2009 01:47 AM

do you overclock

Nite 09-05-2009 01:48 AM

Nope stock settings on everything.

kyle_e.a. 09-05-2009 01:50 AM
