GTAIV DLC
* When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV
* It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA3 Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV
* No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it
* If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions

I seriously doubt the DLC will be like Vice City and San Andreas. VC and SA were NOT expansions, they were new games built on the same game engine. Also Take-2 have already said they won't be focusing anything major on DLC just some extras here and there. Article looks like fanboy love to me.

That's what I think but at the same time look how much was spent on this DLC, what else can it really be then?

Well, I'm just gonna dream a little here...
What if the whole "visit Vice City" thing came to life in the DLC? Like you could download frickin' vice city. That'd be raw.

I would download San Andreas that would be funny Niko goes up in the hood then gets clothes and looks gangster lol.

I mean that it won't be Vice City or San Andreas, do you really think Rockstar would just completely blank the PS3 market like that? No, it would cause too much bad press for them, yes the DLC is exclusive to Microsoft which mighjt just be small things like extra clothes, weapons mods or multiplayer modes. Not much but enough to get some fans to chose that version over the PS3.
I am not believing it until it comes from a R* representative.

Yeah until it's official I wouldn't hope on expecting something as big as this, but like I said with all the money spent on DLC
how could it be little things such as extra clothes and so on, it has to be bigger then that?

I think it may be a few extra missions nothing major, wasn't it said that it would only be a few hours worth of material. Rockstar also said it would be nothing major as they are only testing the water with this downloadable content to see how it could work in the future. The problems with a whole new city is that would need too much work planning it out and designing a whole new city for such a small share of the market (only xbox owners who own gta, who have a hard drive, who have paid for xbox live and who actually want it and to pay for it so soon after shelling out for the origional). Then also issues of the size it would have to around the size of a dvd causing problems with storage and download times.
It all just seems that something of this size is bad business and a huge risk on such an untested format such as downloadable content.

I don't think it would get them bad press Ash, its only some DLC. You'd still buy the next GTA.
I mean that it won't be Vice City or San Andreas, do you really think Rockstar would just completely blank the PS3 market like that?Yes. It'd also give them bad press if they didn't hold up on what they agreed to do. Pay that much and then come out with dinky content? No one is going to want to do business with them if that's the case.

wrong if you have a silver membership you can download anything.
also i belive its been said somewhere else that the DLC will offor at least 8 hours of new gameplay.
i would imagine the DLC would be like the oblivion stuff, knights of the nine....shivering isles.
if your saying the DLC will just be a few extra clothes or something crap like that think again buddy, probally just ps3 fanboy talk. i know if i the DLC was only coming to ps3 i would be pissed off because it sounds so darn good. :lick:

I hope its not as much Microsoft points as oblivion personally i don't think shivering isles was worth 2500 Microsoft points.
Jakenz

eh dont blame MS for the price of shivering isles, it was like $50nz on pc.
bottom line is any DLC is better than no DLC

"When MS says exclusive"
But what about when R* says exclusive? Whole different ball game. Sucks insecurity cost MS $50 million.

Rockstar do not have a say whether this stuff is exclusive or not. Microsoft do.

50 million is a big number and could have been spent on new areas, charecters, weapons, missions; or it could be a to secure exlcusive rights on a few clothes and cars. Either way, won't the xbox player experience more gta? While choosing which system to buy gta4 on, I would be looking forward to EPISODIC CONTENT on the 360. Whats so episodic about cars and clothes? You think the t-shirts in each "Episode" will become increasingly cooler?
Thats like saying you bought star wars the game episode one, but episode two was a bonus light saber. To me, the word episodic hints towards new areas becoming unlocked with new missions. Xbox has done great with DLC so far, Oblivion Shivering Isles (not just new armor and horses there. and didnt cost 50 mil.) Godfather had new missions and weapons. Stranglehold has big new expansion just released. Each pack was well worth the 10 bucks and added hours of gameplay.
Wasn't the budget for gta4 100 million? 50 million for new episodic content should speak volumes about the confidence in microsoft has and not its insecurity.
Fianly, I do recognize the playstation as GTA's home. But, to me, learning a new controler layout is worth every bit of extra content. Even if it was an episodic clothes pack.

Im sure before MS droped 50 million dollars on EXCLUSIVE content, a contract was writtin up. With that much money in a buisness deal between two major companies, I would hope it's the same ball game.
I'm not much of a gambling man, but if i bet $50 million on a hand it wouldn't be from insecurity.

MS has to buy out everyone because they're insecure about their own success without having power over everyone and everything and making it exclusive to their platform.
@Olin's earliest post, so suddenly Rockstar has become money craving, half-their-fan-base ignoring bastards, just to make a few extra dollars? Yeah, don't think so. Rockstar gives so much to their fans and actually do think about them, forget the press, just look at all the stuff they've gotten into with the media. "Kid playing GTA kills friend" (x1,000), the hot coffee mod, Jack Thompson's frequent attacks at them, etc. The media already seems to show them to be bad people and a bad company, but you know who ignores that? The fans do, they love the games too much to care whether or not some kid killed his friend allegedly due to playing GTA.
Just because this content is exclusive to 360 at the moment does NOT mean it will never appear on the PS3 market. GTA was exclusive to the PlayStation 2 before, what happened later? It's on the Xbox. Exclusive is never forever when it involves Rockstar. Contracts expire. Oh yeah, who's to say the PS3 version won't get it's own different exclusive content? It's just the individual content that's exclusive, not being able to get it.

Sorry i should have looked into that more before posting but i still stand by everything else. If this is true it's a great idea but i just don't see it being something on such a large scale, although i do think it will be more than clothes and cars as i stated maybe more missions with or without a new island. I just don't think it's a good idea to hype it up while it's still only a rumour just in case people are let down. :)

im not worried cus however u put it u still gotta pay for xbox live and u dont have to pay anything for the ps3 online...............so the xbox could have their content, microsoft is always trying to hog everything up anyways.(but thats just my opinion. everyones entitled to their own)

You cant download any thing when you have silver not any demos or movies game vids nothing maybe game add ons but nothing else.

Maybe you should direct your concern at the company owners who let themselves be sold out and not the company buying them.
The deal with DLC is different from the time exclusivity of the PS2 GTA titles. How is that hard to understand? They're not neglecting their fans, they're releasing extra content for one platform.
I'm not sure if the exclusivity of the content is strictly 360. It might appear on Windows.
Oh, and that $50,000,000 helps fund the development of the game as a whole.
Slim, I have to disagree with you on this one. Don't let favouritism overtake common sense. Microsoft made a smart move buying DLC, I'm sure if Sony were the ones buying the DLC your attitude would differ.
It's just Business, as Olin said.

i just had a think then, im willing to bet the DLc stays exclusive because theres no point releasing it for ps3 because most of the game hype will have died down years from now. but i wouldnt be suprised to see it on PC

It is business. Microsoft didn't pay $50 million because that's how much the DLC cost to make. They didn't pay that much because they believe it will earn them that money back. They paid that much to make sure they had it exclusive. i.e. no one else gets it.

Wrong Jakenz, except exclusive content which is only allowed on Gold Account...
Xbox Live Silver (free)
Create your gamer profile: Ok, you get a unique ID to identify yourself on the Xbox Live network. Sweet.
Create and maintain a friends list: You can chat with Xbox Live friends just like any Instant messaging program.
Access To Xbox Live Marketplace: You'll be able to download game demos, skins to customize the look of Xbox live, game content, and arcade mini-games. Some downloads will be free (demos, trailers) and others will be premium (arcade games).
Xbox Live Gold (as low as $50/year)
All the Silver level benefits PLUS:
Online gameplay: You can only play games on Xbox Live if you have a Gold membership.
Exclusive Xbox Live Marketplace Content: A few extra downloadable perks for being a gold member.
Those are the basic differences between Silver and Gold.
Bottom line: to play your Xbox 360 games online, you'll have to purchase a Gold membership.

no ur wrong the "exclusive content" is stuff like new HOT demos and silvers members have to wait a week no more no less. thats it, the ONLY other thing gold members have over silver is that they can play online. msn and friends servies all work the same

I remember there was a package deal: 12 months of gold, one camera, one microphone, and Uno for 70 - 80 bucks. Not a bad deal, plus the you can take all the gamer pics you want so for me its paid for itself. Whats your gamertag?

Olin, you replied to Ash's post as if he was arguing the same point as Slim, which isn't the case. Ash said the DLC won't be something like Vice City or San Andreas (and all the content that goes with that i.e. an entirely new game) because that would be too huge too block out the potential sales of the PS3 customer base (let alone too huge a download). That's why the DLC is more likely to be an add on within this Liberty City by which I mean something like a new story. Also, Microsoft (and maybe R*) already confirmed it will be substantial and add hours of new and unique gameplay therefore not dinky.

Nothing is exclusive :D
Wasn't GTA3, GTA: VC and GTA: SA at first exclusive to PS2?
Yes it was.
Exclusivity costs money so what do most companies do buy exclusivity for a certain amount of time so that they're the first.

I wonder how much time $50 million buy?
I hope ps3 gets the DLC too. But I hope it's the same ""episodes" 360 gets, cus I'd be pissed if a game that was supposed to be identicle on both systems, if fact wasn't. The shittiest part, if 50 mill is just buying time, and the last download for 360 is released next year.. How long will Sony's wait be?

Not if they charged money for the content. I bought GTA the trilogy for x box, even tho i own and beat the games on ps2 (sold the ps2). If I had gta4 on ps3, I would buy the content. In my opinion Rockstar wouldn't hesitate to make a quick buck and hook up sony with the DLC IF there actualy is a contract that will expire.

Wow, harsh?
I guess that makes sony the little gay kid that can't protect his shit. Put up or shut up.. MS put up and Sony shut up. At least you can admit MS is the "cool kid" and obiously has more power or pull in the industry.
:zcab: Not really my opinion, just think it's funny... Since it's MS exclusive, you would rather nobody has access to the DLC? Thats jealousy. Bitter unrelenting jealousy. Seems like your taking a bit hard seeing how you don't care much for DLC in the first place. Wich is a broad statement considering the DLC is still a mystery. No matter what is included, you still don't really care much?
And GTA's audience is the people not the consoles. Your such a fan and your feeling ignored? Get a 360, or consider yourself more a sony fan then a GTA fan. The console shouldn't determine the audience, PC gamers are being ignored? Theyre part of GTA's audience just as much as any playstation or Xbox owner. I know its probably pretty easy to become possesive over a games series that was debuted on a system you own.
i don't really care much for DLC...i think of MS as little kids who have to steal other peoples toy's just to be the cool kid in class....its pretty selfish to ignore half of gta's auidence
well then why didnt you pick the rich kid with all the toys when you went to buy a console? so while we play the download content and ou watch the vids on youtube, you willl realise, rich kids beat girl with small amount of games.
