oooookay, here is my problem, I got this freaking 15 inch flatscreen and I want to play GTA VC. The problem is, it starts in a resolution higher then 1024 x 768. My monitor only goes up to 1024 x 768. Is there a file that I can modify to make it work? (had the same problem in C&C generals and I just added some info to a file)

its the opposite to mine ! i start it with a 17 inch normal monitor with a suitible graphics card , and on 1024x768 res , and it starts in 604x328.... BAH !
In your GTA Vice City user files folder in My Documents, there is a file called gta_vc.set. Delete it. If done correctly, the game will start in 640x480x16 now. You'll have to change the controls again, though.
If this doesn't work, pass me your email and I'll send you my gta_vc.set (I run the game at 1024x768).

umm...im pretty sure EVERY moniter can cope with 640x480x16 ...

Well apparently my pos doesn't,:angry: thought it was nice but it doesn't seem to like that...SDM-S53/B 15" LCD Monitor there it is, I can't find any info on it not wanting to do anything under 800x600...and the file worked! its working fine. THANKS!!!!!:peace: :D :D :D

Your LCD only goes to 1024x768? I play VC at 1280x1024. Is there some way to change the monitor settings in the controle panel?

The graphics card mite not support higher than 1024x768 most new monitors can go alot higher than this and 640x328 is the bare minimum now

My monitor can only handle the max resolution of 1024x768, look up the specs. My video card can handle (I know for sure) 1600x1200. I switched from my regular VGA to a DVI output, and it seemed to do the trick....the bottleneck is the monitor, that was the whole problem to begin with. :wink2:

Hi there - I recently, like really randomly had the same problem of resolution. The game worked perfectly til recently, then all of the sudden the screen said "cannot display this video mode". Just to say thanks for putting your GTA_VC.Set file thing - cured all res. problems.

Btw - the problems I had was with a 15" flat screen - dell made one tho - I wonder if they are related problems?
Opps - forgot to ask - i'm having the same problem (same error message) with resolution when I try and play GTA3 - could someone post the same file for GTA3 on here - for resolution of 1024X768

Well - its a long time since i posted anything - and I know i'm double posting, but i feel like I can as the last post is over 6 months old. The problem I had with GTA3 not liking my video modes still exists - and I really wanna play MTA:portland. Can someone hook me up with the 1024x680 file like the one I was given for VC?
