Does anyone have their Crysis freeze for a few seconds when they try to record a video thru fraps? I get freezes randomly, anywhere from a few seconds to minutes apart, when recording. Lowering the recording fps to 30 fps seems to help a bit.

I tried recording some stuff in crysis with ZD soft game recorder.. It didn't freeze at any time. But the frame takes quite a hit when it's recording.
How does fraps affect the frame rate?
I really haven't looked into game recorders / screen capturing apps, a friend just told me about the ZD soft one.
Don't know.
When your recording with fraps the end product is a highly uncompressed video file that can easily break a GB depending on the recording settings you have, i think FRAPS is slowing down your HDD since Crysis will surely try and cache during gameplay
Xan, Fraps uses some compression on higher resolution video.
Never noticed that, but still massive sizes though.
I though FRAPS didn't compress to avoid lagging the system more?

As far as I can tell, fraps doesn't compress. 600 mb on a 1280x1024 40 second clip?....
But yeah, I don't think it's the HD, since I'm recording to another physical drive. Yeah, my framerate goes from around 30 to maybe 15 during recording but that's normal.
I'll check out this ZD soft game recorder.

Well, ZD game recorder doesn't freeze, but I still like fraps better. So I guess I'll use this if I want to record crysis stuff.
my system always lags when I record movies with fraps when in game, but yea in Crysis its even worse. Even when I just take a screenshot with fraps in Crysis, the system will freeze for like 5 seconds, maybe even 10 seconds sometimes. It just goes to show that game is very heavy on resources =/

If you look at videos above (I think) 800x600, there will be some issues with certain colors like blue (worst) and green. Small text using those two colors will suffer. As far as I can tell, fraps doesn't compress. 600 mb on a 1280x1024 40 second clip?....

Load a save, record for (as close to) 3 seconds as possible while standing still. Use the calculator and add 10.25% to the file size and then multiply that by 2. Record the same thing at 1280x1024 and compare the two numbers.
