I have a few questions, but I'm not quitte sure where to ask them, so I'll ask them here.

My cousin gave me God of War I and II. I tried to play them, but as soon as I started my PS2, the screen with 'Browser' and 'System Config." comes up. Now, since I'm stubburn I restarted it a few times and after like 30 minutes it worked. (note: when on that screen with browser, ... I pressed triangle and changed disc speed to fast, texture mapping to smooth and diagnose on) Even so, it always takes like an half an hour to start up the game (which is LOOONG)

I finished GoW I and started GoW II and now, It just won't start anymore. I'm near the end, but it just DOES NOT WANT TO WORK ANYMORE.

Does anyone know how this is possible? I mean, all my other games work, dvd's work, cd's work everything works, except for GoW I and II

Now it's 12.40 and I've been trying to start GoW II from aprox. 10.35!!

(Also, if this is in the wrong section, I'm sorry)

THANK YOU

Did you wipe off any dust and fingerprints from the disc? If there are any scratches you might consider bad on the disc, your cousin was likely careless.

I'm not stupid: ofcourse the disc is clean and yes, there are a few small scratches on the disc, I've played a few times and now, it just doesn't work.
It's just so strange, both god of war games don't work.

I tried my most scratched disc: my first game (the sims) and it still works, but Gow II is so awesome and it's frustrating when it doesn't work!!

EDIT:
Look what I found on Wikipedia when I typed "Playstation 2":
A third problem was also found. A handful of early PlayStation 2 consoles were unable to read dual layered DVDs.[citation needed] Such problems were found at the launch of the game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.[citation needed] Sony promised to replace any old consoles for a new console if this problem occurred for anyone.[citation needed] Also, some older slim models, that have dirt and dust built up in, or under the laser after awhile are able to play regular games, but unable to read dual layered DVDs, and movie DVDs.[citation needed] An example is God of War, because the game is on a dual layered disk, it does not work in some slim models.[citation needed]

But it works SOMETIMES...

^Yeah I had the same problem. Temp fix would be to stand it up. To really fix it you'll have to open it up.

I found out how to play!!
Well, I completed God of War II because I accidentily found out how to run GoW (which is on a dubble layered DVD) on a ps2 which can not run dubble layered dvd's.
I accidentily bumped my PS2 right after I closed my disc-tray and it loaded immediatly!! I completed GoW II , shut my PS2 of and tried again: start ps2 (then it comes to the screen with browser etc..., press triangle and set disc speed to fast, texture mapping to smooth and diagnosis on. open disc tray, close it again and give it a gentil bump.)

EDIT: now I don't hit it hard, it's just a small bump. no harm done.
