Kinda reminds me of Spiderman 2, The fact that the free-roaming aspects are amazing, The missions get repetitive and it had awesome potential. Nethertheless I gets my pre-ordered Collectors Edition on Friday :)

Someone somewhere is always going to be disapointed, not all games can be like Halo 3 where we had the reviewers bribed! Rather than let other people decide what you should play, rent or try the demo and decide for yourself, same goes for films, I rarely listen to reviews.

Umbrella Chronicles got a score to where Assassin's Creed did and its good as hell.
Halo 3 got basically 5/5 and its by far the biggest waste of $60 I have spent, and is my first game purchase regret since the N64 days.
I don't let the reviewers tell me my opinion of a game, I'll make my own.
The little I've played of Assassin's Creed during work, I can say that its a solid game. It may too much into the whole "movie" feel, but its a fun game. I think people are just pissed that it wasn't their Prince of Persia like they first thought.

It seems that reviewers are getting a higher standard with this new generation of consoles, which is perfectly understandable.
Assasins Creed looks good, it reminds me alot like Oblivion, the PC version is suppose to be out sometime early 2008

IGN's review was poor. I mean how can you say a part of the investigation side like going and sitting on a bench and listen into somones conversation is boring and repetitive?
Its bullshit, this guy blatently rushed through it and just jotted down the main points to make his sucky review.
Clearly he hasnt played Shenmue. Wouldnt be supprised if he hasnt even played Prince Of Persia, since fans of that game will like it, and of course people who havent played it. Its not like IGN to give such a shit review like that. Thats usually left to GameSpot.
Assassins Creed's enemies have a bad AI

I want to buy it, but if it is short that would definetely push me away from it. I just bought Heavenly Sword and that was short so I'm not really into another short game right now.
Its supposed to have around 15 hours playtime for heavy gamers like you n me. Which is pretty solid if you ask me.
I might buy if i have enough cash.

the repetitive part has put me off the game that i have waited for for a hell of a long time and bought the actual console for.
but is it fuck putting me off buying it, still looking forward to it, gonna get it at lunchtime friday.
hell jeah.

Another Take
from Jeff Haynes [Playstation Team, Editor]
Let me get this out of the way first: Assassin's Creed is a beautiful game to look at from afar. The visuals are impressive, and the animation is particularly slick and fluid, especially when you're in the middle of free running segments or bouncing over rooftops. Similarly, if you understand swordplay, you'll recognize the flowing nature of parrying and attacks that makes combat rather enjoyable (even if you have to relearn simple things like countering strikes all over again). However, when you get closer and you see the constant amount of pop-in of items and NPCs, repeated render passes, textures that tear and other visual issues, you can't help but feel like some bugs weren't fully eliminated. Perhaps this is because solving elements like the repetitious gameplay elements for assassinations or the buggy visuals were somewhat lost in favor of the bigger picture, which was the set up for an obvious sequel. The future context comes across more as an interruption than a device to help push the plot forward, and its clunky segments, coupled with its abrupt and disappointing ending will probably have fans throwing controllers at screens after they've invested dozens of hours exploring the secrets of Acre, Damascus and Jerusalem. Had the game kept its focus squarely within the time period of the Crusades and only at the end explained its Matrix-like attachments to the real world, the supposed cliff hanger would have been much better. As it stands now, Assassin's Creed is one of those titles that was big on promise, but short in some ways on its overall execution.
This was added to the end of the Assassins Creed review, Link in first post, I guess to back up the other guy's review and the fact he sounded rushed blah blah etc (I'd say he was genuinely pissed at the quality of this suspected AAA title)
Anyway, The editor is from the Playstation team, But he doesn't specifiy whether or not it's the PS3 version he's reviewed, Most likely it is, But I hope not :(

It seems to me AC suffered from hype. Reviewers were so hyped up and when they play teh game they found it disappointing. Apparently a few friends of mine got the game and they all love it. Don't worry about the reviews.

Gametrailers 9.1 / 10 Nov 12, 2007

GamePro 5 / 5 Nov 8, 2007
and gamespot gave it a 9.0. One reveiw doesnt mean the end of the world.
I'm not worrying, it'll be amazing
Picked it up on my lunch break yesterday and spent about two hours on it last night. Honestly had to make myself quit playing so that I could get up for work this morning. Love it. Engrossing.
The dumbest criticism so far is "they revealed the secret in the first five minutes." I mean, come on. It's the BASIS OF THE GAME. The game wouldn't make sense if they did it otherwise.
I also like the subtle dig (in the game book accompanies the disc) at folks who might complain about the controls, which take a little getting used to but are really neat.
9/10 from me.

I bought it. I haven't beat it yet, but it is hella fun. Best looking Game I have so far. The character Models and Facial expressions don't look as good as they do in Heavenly Sword, but the environments look way better. I wish I had HD TV. :(

Yeah i picked it up today. Cant believe how they can rate it 7.7 and 6.5 man. Its easily in the eights.
They cant review for shit. Its quite an immersive game.

Also got it today, 6.5 is bullshit, the game is great imo.
When they said you can basically climb and escape anywhere, they really meant it. :zero:

I got this game, I'm not an hour in, and it's pissing me the fuck off because it doesn't have fucking subtitles. Ubisoft can try to sue sites who have done no harm, but don't have the common fucking decenty to put in subtitles for the hard of hearing. Fuck this game.

It got an 8.7 on IGN AU. Not a bad score tbh.

How is that an unimportant thing if you have a hearing deficiency and have trouble following the story? This basically means I can't enjoy the game to a full extent.
Assassin's Creed:
+ Amazing graphics
+ Extremely well done controls that feel natural. Jumping from roof to roof is a wonderful feeling, especially when you have the area in high alert. 3d Zelda's could learn a thing or two from AC's use of auto jump.
+ You aren't penalized when you die, you simply respawn to the nearest checkpoint. While this makes the game seem extremely easy, it's far from it. I tried to take on 5 or 6 guys myself and got raped. I'm not sure if that's because it was near the beginning and I hadn't fully adjusted to fighting yet.
+ Good battle system, at least compared to the first PoP (I haven't played the others yet).
+ Stealth kills are badass, and you basically rack up kills one after another. It's cool because you've got options
+ Climbing stuff is just as fun as it is in Crackdown, and jumping is just as exhilarating. While I haven't really found anything from exploring high roof tops yet, you do get to scope out possible escape routes if you get caught. Also, since the game is so damn beautiful, climbing whatever you can get your hands on is a joy.
+ *I* think the "plot twist" is cool, although even if it wasn't there, it wouldn't take a thing away from the game. It's nice to have.
+ There are THOUSANDS of people in each area, and you can do lots of things to them: kill them, pickpocket them... It's like Shenmue with a next gen face lift.
+ The horse segments are handeled very well, and give me Shadow of the Colossus, and especially Ocarina of Time/Twilight Princess flashbacks.
- No subtitles is a big thing for me. For a story based game like this, I expect subtitles. I have been doing things and sometimes I don't understand why I'm doing them, and you should never feel that way in a game like this. Hopefully, a damn subtitles patch is released.
- The AI, at least so far, is pretty incompetent. I'll give an example with stealth kills; Usually, you will have 3-5 guards in one area. Let's say you assassinate one with your stealth knife. All you really have to do after you kill him is blend in, and the guards won't notice you. They will go and examine the body, during which, the alert status will be high alert, and if you touch anything you will be discovered. After that, which takes a mere 5-10 seconds, they go back to their positions and everything's back to normal, when you can continue assassinating the guards in the area. It's a little too simple for my tastes to be honest, but then again, this is pretty early. It's pretty hilarious; I'll kill some guy and then his comrade, who was 5 feet away comes over to his corpse and is like WHO DID THIS and I'm right behind him.
Basically, this game is Grand Theft Auto in the crusades instead of modern day, and it's a pretty damn good sandbox game, especially when compared to other games in the genre released on next gen consoles (the average Crackdown and fun Saints Row). Many reviews belittle the so called "repetitive" nature, but it's no less repetitive than a GTA game. If this genre is your thing and you'd like a different take on the sandbox genre without the guns and cars, you should check this out.

Assassin's Creed looks awesome, I don't believe that about it being disappointing..you might as well rent it first then you can review it yourself and see what you like.
The AI problem is known by many in AC tho
I hope its fixed, because from what ive seen its quite bad, the only downfall to the game it seems

The one thing I love about this game that nobody has mentioned yet is how every civilian looks different.
I've yet to run into a crowd and see 2 of the same character models.

I have, Most of the women carrying pots look the same, And all the fat guys. Lots of character models are the same just with different attire :/ Well that's what I've seen anyways, And I'm on the second Memory Block, Doing the second assassination in Acre, I did Jerusalem first.
My one buddy LOVES this game, im not too sure if id want to buy it though... Only if its a really long game.
This games not worth the money if you are expecting something amazing.
Poor controls, no subtitles, annoying loading screens, poor AI.
I'll play it more.. n see how it goes.

I was really looking forward to picking this game up, then I heard some reviews for it and changed my mind.
Alright well after 2 solid hours of playing:
Its a pretty good game all in all, first impressions aren't too great since you start off with all your weapons and it looks all good. But then they get all removed and you are left with just fists, but after completing a few missions you get your stuff back. I'm completely lost with the storyline itself, I know that you play a guy in the future who has to get the memories of his ancestors who were Assassins. But thats about it.
The AI like I said before is pretty shit, hopefully it gets improved later on. You can kill a guard in broad daylight and the other one standing about 5ft away will just walk to the corpse and say "Who did this?" and walk back to where he was. So really when you first start playing there's no need to be careful when walking, also I was stupid and thought the first starting place guards were hostile so I walked around in hidden mode lol.
The controls are hard at first, very tricky, but making sure RT and A are held down you shouldn't go wrong. Also, don't play crackdown before you play this game, because if you are used to jumping from crazy ass heights and surviving, then this game will kick you in the face. Luckily you'll pick up the controls quickly because once you get to a city you'll just straight up start running around. The animation is incredible, its so natural.
Combat is, well a little tough at first, but once you get counter its pretty silly honestly. Basially you stand there in block mode and when an enemy goes to attack you, you do a gory attack and kill them instantly, if they are tougher they will just get knocked down. Much too easy but I only got to like the 4th target.
Overall its a good game, if it pisses you off a little at first, just keep playing and go at it, you'll start to enjoy it after a while. Even though I did have some troubles getting this game to load (Xbox 360 crapped out) its great. The cities are really alive, reminds you sorta of GTA where the people in the cities do their own things. The annoying this is when peasants pester you for gold hah.

Aha early in the game, my first peasant came up to me and would keep getting in the way.
I was trying to keep a low profile from the guards and got pissed off so I just grabbed her and threw her to my left.
So I kept walking and then heard a huge crash behind me.
Turns out I threw her into the wooden support things and it collapsed on her and like 6 other civilians. :zero:
I was like "shit" and ran haha. xD

Friend of mine that has it for PS3 complained endlessly about load times, but says it's a great game.
His dad spends a lot on him. His dad got him Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 (both PS3) in the span of one week, and he has a 360, Wii, and PS3. And he plays them on a giant HDTV he has. Needless to say, I'm gonna go over to his house someday, he only lives a couple blocks down from me, and he's been a good friend of mine for 3 years. :P
